CONSERVATIVES NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS A DONALD TRUMP
…The Conservative opinion writer,
Michael Gerson, a former policy advisor to George W. Bush and Bob Dole
Donald Trump is the result of
elected Republicans not doing their jobs.
You can really
tell that the Trump campaign is getting at the right-wing of the GOP when a syndicated conservative
opinion writer is reduced to coming up with a headline like: "Donald Trump and the Politics of the Middle Finger". “
However,
that’s exactly the headline offered from the Washington Post opinion writer, Michael Gerson for one of his
latest articles.
And Mr. Gerson
didn’t just stop there.
He obviously
is coming to understand that his party’s lack of working with the opposition
party for almost a decade has really upset the nation’s population. And it has become so bad, that the Manhattan
clown that Gerson personally called a “joke”
and a “novelty”, just might end up
being the Republican presidential nominee.
Gerson, and
other conservative are really starting to sweat. I now advise him and the others like him that
when you stop doing the people’s business for years at a time, just to spite
the first black Democratic president, some unpleasant things will probably
occur.
Gerson’s
frustration must have seriously increased as he felt he just had to put the
following in print:
“Why has this happened? Trump is not leading
because he has masked his ideas, which have been consistent and forthright. He
would [he says] build a Mexican-funded wall across the continent, expel
11 million undocumented immigrants, blow up the global trading order, send
Syrian refugees back into a war zone, ban the immigration of Muslims to the
United States and consider a Muslim registry. No one who supports Trump can say
they didn’t know the ethnically and religiously charged content of Trumpism.”
I have to
agree that everything he said here is true about Trump, but in writing what he
did, it just showed how much frustration Gerson is feeling.
I also have to
say that Mr. Gerson does seem to understand that it is the GOP’s fault that things have gotten so bad that a candidate like Donald
Trump can continue to hold the lead in the polls. Even he says, “Trump’s style, his defiance of convention and political correctness,
that seems to explain the intensity of his support. “We’re voting with our
middle finger,” said a Trump supporter in South Carolina.”
The reason for
the public’s acceptance of Trump’s “defiance
of convention and political correctness” is that the “establishment Republicans and conservatives” decided to not do their jobs in the US
Congress. And today, most of the
American public has had it up to their eyeballs and they have since adopted the
Howard Beale “middle-finger” approach by saying “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”
But throughout
Gerson’s column, he continues to go after Trump’s less than acceptable attributes.
He should
instead start asking himself, “Why are
usually sane Americans accepting all this ridiculous Trumpism crap?”
I totally
agree with Gerson about Trump being the wrong person for the top job. But the issue isn’t just about Donald Trump. The issue is why this yahoo is being
supported by all those average Americans?
The reality is
that Trump is just saying the things that the average working American is
thinking. He is demonstrating, and he has
enough celebrity pulpit to sell, exactly what has been pissing off most
Americans. That being, that they are observing the elected US government officials in
Washington are slacking of on the job.
Mr. Gerson
unfortunately just doesn’t want to admit the truth. I say this because instead of looking at
where the real issue is, he blames what is going on in the country on both
President Obama and Donald Trump.
He did
this when he wrote: “Many Trump
supporters believe that Obama has changed the country in destructive ways —
which I believe is true. But they [Trump supporters] also would change our
country in ways that should make us sick at heart. For all our faults, we are a
nation that prizes civility and respect. We give our neighbor the benefit of
the doubt. We stand up for the little guy. We are grateful for our flawed and
wonderful country. And we know our flag stands for shared ideals, not someone’s
idea of shared bloodlines.”
As you can
see, Gerson is not looking at why the Trump
supporters are acting as they do. All
they are really doing is reacting to what has been going on, or more correctly,
what has ‘not’ been going on in
America’s politics.
Americans are
only looking to someone like Donald Trump because no one on their side of the
aisle is strong enough to yell “stop
it”, and correct the course that the nation seems to be on.
It’s time to
place the blame for the issue in the right place, and it’s time to make some changes.
But someone like Donald
Trump is not the answer. Donald Trump the narcissist, is currently in the right place for these desperate Americans to latch on to for the
up-coming general election.
Will the
voters in the Republican party eventually save themselves?
Stay tuned for
an exciting finish, yet to be determined.
