THE CONCEPT OF DR. CARSON AS PRESIDENT IS MORE FRIGHTENING THAN TRUMP

…Dr. Carson the “Brain” surgeon

Donald Trump is a boisterous clown, Dr. Carson is a dangerous potential nominee.

I have been appalled at some of the ignorant statements by the renowned Dr. Ben Carson.

His political fame started with an insane comment that Obamacare, a program that gave 17 million Americans health coverage for the first time in their lives was, according to Dr. Carson, “The worst thing to happen to America since slavery.”

From there it went downhill.  But because he is a soft-spoken, mild mannered, 7th Day Adventist neurosurgeon, potential religious voters are buying all his garbage.

The doctor has made off-the-wall and disgusting comments about Nazis, and statements saying that if the Jews had been armed, there would not have been a Holocaust.  Plus, he has criticized President Obama and the IRS, saying, “We live in a Gestapo age, people don’t realize it.”  These comments are way out of line.

Carson just loves using Nazi references because he knows that just by mentioning Nazis, Hitler, and the Holocaust, he is guaranteed to be quoted in the news.  To prove my point, Carson’s statement on guns and the Holocaust is: “The likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed.”

For years, people have said that as soon as someone compares anyone to Hitler, people stop listening.  But Dr. Carson has found that being an unknown in politics, by using words like slavery, Nazi, Hitler and the Holocaust, he knows he will be quoted or videoed, recorded or interviewed.

In his references to WWII Germany and Nazis, I have my own personal issues.

My family on my father’s side is of German descent.  My last name is a shortened version of a long German name.  My father fought for the US in both WWII and in the Korean conflict and he was a very patriotic American.  Bringing up the Nazis and Hitler today is extremely distressing to anyone of German descent, whether in America or in Germany.

I have been to Germany multiple times and have visited many of the areas that are there to remind the German people and the world how horrible the Nazi’s were and what Hitler and the Nazis did.  To compare our president, or any politician, to a despicable individual such as Adolf Hitler is about as disgusting as one can get.

If Dr. Carson were to visit Germany and talk to today’s Germans he would find just how bad today’s Germans feel about the reputation that Hitler and the Nazis had given their country.  For the doctor to bring up such a horrible time and individual, and compare them to any American politician is beyond the pale.

Were a German politician to bring up the Third Reich, Hitler or the Holocaust in a German political race, they would be run out of the country or worse.

But what does Dr. Carson say about his initial statement of no Holocaust if the Jews were armed?  His comment is, “Interestingly enough, in the last several weeks I’ve heard from many people in the Jewish community, including rabbis, who said, ‘You’re spot on,’ ” Carson told NBC’s Chuck Todd on Meet The Press. “It is generally agreed that it is much more difficult to dominate people who are armed than people who are not armed. Some people will try to take that and make it into an anti-Jewish thing, which is foolishness.”

What’s even worse about this is that the good doctor is totally ignorant about the truth of Hitler, the Nazis and gun control in pre-war Germany.

A University of Chicago professor, Bernard Harcourt, is now at Columbia Law School. Mr. Harcourt demonstrated in a 2004 Fordham Law Review article, that the gun laws in Germany between the two world wars reflected “decreasing, not increasing” gun control.  With regard to possession and carrying of firearms, the Nazi regime relaxed the gun laws that were in place in Germany at the time the Nazis seized power.”

However, I guess the foolish Dr. Carson really believes that the German and Polish Jews, with their various hand guns and hunting rifles would have survived against the then strongest military in the world.

But the most disturbing part today is how the American Republican voters are reacting to Dr. Carson’s comments. In a recent Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register poll, 77% of likely Republican caucus-goers said they “found Carson’s statements about Hitler and guns attractive”.  So 77% of mostly religious, middle-American Iowan’s actually “…found Carson’s statements about Hitler and guns attractive”.  That's amazing!

It is frightening to see that the results of this soft spoken intelligent man is achieving with his mild and soft-speaking manner exactly what Hitler did for gaining the German people’s trust.  But Hitler did it with loud and boastful speeches.

Everywhere you go in Germany, you can find pieces of WWII history.  The German nation today wants to make sure those in the future understand the unwelcome lessons of what happen in WWII that must never happen again.

It appears that some Americans also need to understand that following a man like Dr Carson could bring back some very old, bad ideas to current America.
