NEW HOUSE MEMBERS REFERRED TO AS “LITTLE BOYS CLUB” & TROUBLEMAKERS
The anticipated new Speaker of the
House, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)
John Boehner is leaving as Speaker to
maintain a level of sanity.
Have any of
you readers ever heard of the latest group of House
members being referred to as the “Brat
Pack”?
This group of
around 37 ultra-conservative members of the House
are today trying to claim that they drove John Boehner out of his role as House Speaker. One Washington publication referred to these
37 members as the ones that “…came to
Washington not to govern but to fight. But what does one make of a little boys’
club with nothing to show for themselves other than a record of disruption and
a talent for tantrums?”
One of the
more sane Republicans on the Hill has
said “These are the guys who couldn’t get
a prom date. They’d rather rape and
pillage than do the hard work. They can’t get to first base much less hit a
home run.”
This was just
one of the more sane members of congress that still believes in today’s uncommon concept
of using political “compromise” to
get some things done for the American people.
These are also some House
members that roll their eyes when these know-nothings try to lecture them about the
Constitution as they rant about the nation’s debt.
BTW, the
definition of the nation’s debt is the accumulation of the difference every
year between the budget and what the nation actually spends, which is the
nation’s deficit. I doubt that these new
House members could tell you what the
difference is between the nation’s debt and the deficit.
Anyway, in
order to get the debt they are complaining about decreased, one must start by
staying on budget every year as the nation pays down the debt.
Well, these
new brash novices have apparently not noticed that even under Speaker Boehner,
$2.4 trillion has been cut from the nation’s deficit. That mostly came from the spending side, and
it was all accomplished without raising taxes.
But these 37
newbies which call themselves the “Freedom
Caucus” have several less-charitable nicknames like being called the Brat Pack. They are also referred to as the, “Dog that caught the car, but doesn’t know
what to do with it…..?”
The reality
about Speaker Boehner’s leaving is that he probably could have won his
own re-election, but trying to deal with this group of losers every day, why should
he bother running again?
Boehner knows
how bad the shutting down of the government in going after Obamacare was for the Republican Party in 2013. But he also knows this new Freedom Caucus wants to shut it down
again over de-funding Planned Parenthood. An organization that 62% of the American public supports.
Now let’s
see. If 62% of the nation likes Planned
Parenthood, and the nation’s approval rating of the US Congress is hovering
at around 10%, just how well does
shutting down the government sound today?
Boehner knows all this, and it’s got to also be one of the reasons that
Boehner is not only quitting as the Speaker
of the House, he is also leaving as a member of congress.
So, what about
the person that is expected to take over as the House Speaker?
Well,
Boehner’s successor was almost certainly going to be the current Majority
Leader, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). However,
McCarthy has continued to have some serious “foot-in-mouth”
issues. McCarthy’s latest gaffe, where he
made it clear that the Benghazi select committee was actually developed, just
to lower Hillary’s poll numbers, perhaps McCarthy will be given a 2nd
look by the party.
Now, Speaker
Boehner does like the new Majority Leader, but McCarthy is also one of those
self-declared “young guns” of the House.
McCarthy has voted along with the other “young guns” such as House
Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan and the Freedom Caucus member Dave Brat (R-VA) who had defeated former
representative and Majority Leader, Eric Cantor.
But now,
Boehner has apparently seen the writing on the wall and he probably said, “OK, I’ve done all I can here and I don’t
need to continue hitting my head against the wall as the House Speaker of
a bunch of juveniles.”
Even the one
lone woman in the GOP House
leadership, Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), had considered running for the #2
position of Majority Leader. She had a
very good chance to win, but she also probably decided that it’s a thank-less
job that wasn’t worth it. She has since
announced that she will not run.
She’s currently in the #4 House
position, which is less of a bulls-eye than the #2 position.
This latest
group of new members that is causing all the ruckus got their jobs due to their
highly gerrymandered districts. So to
get rid of them, until the districts are probably reconfigured in 2020, they
will be with us unless the voters decide they are the “bad news boys” they are today.
Hopefully,
these conservative voters will realize their mistakes.
But based on
the political history of the Red states in America, I wouldn’t put any bets on
any major changes in the House for
the next 2 or 3 elections.
