MASS KILLINGS IN THE US WILL CONTINUE TO BE A REGULAR ROUTINE

…Prepare to see more posters like this in small American communities.

The cowards in the US Congress don’t have the courage to pass reasonable gun regulations.

I have to say that when the president spoke about the mass killings in Roseburg, Oregon, saying, “Somehow this has become routine,” it hit me hard as to how true was that statement.  For a president that has been in his office for 7 years, he has already had to make these kind of statements regarding a mass killing in America, 15 different times.

Think about it, that’s an average of having to make similar statements about innocent Americans being randomly killed about every six months, just for them being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But President Obama was correct.  With the do-nothing congress totally unable or unwilling to do anything such as background checks, or stopping the sale of over-size magazines or fully automatic assault weapons, this has just become a regular, “routine story”.

The president was correct that as soon as events like this occur, we will see the same story played out again and again on our TV screens.

First, there’s the helicopter camera scenes of getting the people out of the area.  If it’s a school, all the students will be seen being escorted out of their rooms with their hands held above their heads.  Then there’s the dogs that will be checking out the parking areas looking for possible bombs stashed in the shooter’s car.

All the reporters will be seen coming on the scene as they tell us how many Americans were shot, killed and wounded.  We will hear about which hospitals they were sent to and various interviews with those that had been hiding from the crossfires of the police with the shooter(s).

In this latest event at the community college in Roseburg, those killed ranged from the 67 year old college instructor to an 18 year old that was killed on his 4th day of college.  He had just graduated from the local high school last June.

But regardless of these unnecessary killings of innocent Americans, the NRA nuts immediately start coming out of their holes letting loose with their conspiracy theories.  You know, about the government’s black helicopters that are coming to take away everybody’s guns.  Therefore, everybody is told they should stock-pile more guns.  That’s apparently what the Roseburg killer had done as they have retrieved his 13 guns.

You'll remember, it was just this past Summer that you had the governor of Texas and two US Senators investigating a US military training operation in Texas.  The reason for the investigation was that this latest conspiracy said that President Obama was in the process of having the US military take over each state, one by one, and that he was going to take over the country as a Muslin dictator.

But I digress…….

If only our representatives in congress would just start applying existing background check requirement to all the gun shows, to the in-state gun sales over the Internet and other commercial transactions.  Perhaps this would slow down the instant availability of all those guns.  A change like this would not affect the transfer of a firearm from a father to a son, or a buddy to a buddy, just commercial transactions.

But no, we not only can’t do this, let’s instead approve the laws for allowing anyone to open-carry a loaded weapon in public.  You know, it’s the NRA’s motto:  The only way to deal with a bad guy with a gun, is with a good guy with a gun.”

So, of course that means, every American man, woman and child needs to be armed and ready to kill their crazy neighbor or that stranger from another country, wearing strange attire, that moved into the apartment next door…..hummmmm.

There were 28 deaths from the massacre at Sandy Hook.  At the Washington Navy Yard, 12 killed, three wounded.  In Fort Hood, three killed, 16 wounded. Isla Vista, six killed, seven wounded. Charleston, nine were killed. Now with Roseburg, another nine, and “another community stunned with grief,” as was stated by the president.

But, just instating the basic safe-guards I had mentioned before was way too much for those in the US Senate.

Grieving mothers might get a gun measure to the Senate floor, but today it would never get the over 60-vote threshold.  Even if it did make that miracle, if the missing five or six votes had miraculously appeared, there’s no way those in the other chamber would have the cojones to get it passed in the House of Representatives.

As President Obama has said, “We are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses or want to do harm to other people,” Obama also said. “We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees these kinds of mass shootings every few months.”

The GOP candidate, Donald Trump says, “There nothing that can be done.  This is the cost of our freedom and living in a democracy.  Some of those with mental problems will just slip through the cracks.”

However, in Australia they adopted sweeping anti-gun laws in response to a 1996 mass shooting.  They had 1.4 gun homicides per million people in 2012.  Canada had 5.1 per million.  But the United States had  29.7 per million.  That’s almost 6 times more than our neighbors in Canada.

America is the only country that responds to such killing with proposals to make gun ownership that much easier.  The current Republican front-runner Trump, has proposed policy positions that include expanding concealed gun carry rules from any state to be valid on a nationwide basis.

Obama was correct when he stated that, “When Americans are killed in mine disasters, we work to make mines safer. When Americans are killed in floods and hurricanes, we make communities safer. When roads are unsafe, we fix them to reduce auto fatalities. We have seatbelt laws because we know it saves lives.”

But when it comes to guns, all bets are off.

I do not believe that when our forefathers wrote the 2nd amendment into the US Constitution, they had any idea that it would be misused to allow the carnage that is occurring in this country today.

But with the current cowards in the US Congress, you can expect the killings of innocent Americans to continue to be a “routine experience for all those living in this great nation.”

Sorry folks, but I don’t see any future changes in this story for any time soon.
