A MAJOR PUBLICATION STATES THAT DONALD TRUMP IS “DANGEROUS TO THE REPUBLIC”
….A caricature of a “caricature
GOP nominee”
Sixteen GOP US Senators will NOT
be attending the Republican Convention, six senators are still deciding.
I am not a big
fan of Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), but he was only somewhat accurate when he
referred to the up-coming presidential election as a, “dumpster fire”.
I say that
because, as was stated by an op-ed column from the Washington Post Editorial Board, “the two major-party candidates for president are historically
unpopular,” but they went on to say that you could not seriously compare
the two candidates as each candidate “being
equivalent”.
What The Post determined as a final
evaluation of the two candidates, is that even responsible Republicans should
be able to agree that you may not like or agree with Hillary Clinton, but she
is “well within established bounds of
competence, knowledge, and commitment”, while “Mr. Trump is a danger to the republic.”
This is
demonstrated as being the truth, because a major group of sixteen well-known and well
respected Republican senators have decided to not attend July's Republican
National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
That group
includes Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE),
Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), Sen. Lisa Murkowsky (R-AK),
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID), Sen. Mike Kirk (R-IL), Sen.
Jerry Moran (R-KS), Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Sen.
Pat Toomey (R-PA), Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), and
Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY).
Oh, and
by-the-way, six GOP senators are
still deciding whether they will be attending the convention.
Even though
the final Republican candidate to drop out of the GOP Primary, Sen. Ted Cruz
(R-TX), has agreed to attend and to speak at the convention, but this
senator from Texas has still not
endorsed the presumptive Republican nominee.
And to top off
this large group of US Senators not attending, the two former Republican
President Bush’s and the former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, plus Former Governor Mitt Romney, none of these prominent
members of the GOP will be attending the 2016 Republican Convention in
Cleveland. (A true first for any American political convention to have healthy
former US presidents of the same party not attending.)
There are some
US Senators that have never missed a Republican convention since they first
became interested in politics…..never
missed that is, until this year.
Therefore, for this many key Republicans to be avoiding one of the most
important and most visible events of any political party, the rebellion being
demonstrated by these key drop-outs from the national convention, this is
sending a resounding message of disagreement about the nominee to the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Let’s look at
why there is no way to seriously compare the two final political presidential nominees
with each other.
As the final GOP nominee, Donald Trump has waged a
campaign based on bigotry, ignorance and resentment. Trump has had no experience as a public
servant, and for a candidate running on his so called “business experience”, his private record of multiple bankruptcies
and exploitation of his suppliers should be disqualifying in itself.
Donald Trump
regularly circulates major “4 Pinocchio” falsehoods. He has no noticeable interest
in, or knowledge of, any governmental policies.
In recent days, Mr. Trump tweeted out an anti-Semitic image that had
previously circulated on neo-Nazi, white supremacist websites, and then he
attacked the mainstream media for reporting as such. He has called one sitting
senator “a loser” and has threatened
another senator, all the while proving that he lacks even a passing familiarity
with the US Constitution. He has even
praised one of the most vile Middle East dictators of the 20th century.
But it doesn’t
stop there.
Mr. Trump is
an American with almost no fixed beliefs.
He is still the candidate who mocked a disabled reporter, has proposed
banning Muslims from entering the United States, he attacked a judge based on
his ethnicity, has celebrated violence at his large rallies, he continually
demeaned women and he still promises to round up and deport 11 million
undocumented immigrants . He is still the candidate who came to political
prominence with race-based attacks on the incumbent president, and who launched
his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists.
As to the
other candidate for the Democrats, even if you don’t agree with her politics,
Ms. Clinton is a highly knowledgeable politician who has been vetted over and
over again. Clinton shows that she
understands and respects the US Constitution. She does know about government
policies and she can cite accomplishments in the public interest, such as
obtaining an important children’s health insurance program. As a senator, even
the current Republican Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, has stated his
respect of the former Senator New York. As have other senate colleagues on both
sides of the aisle.
Clinton completed four years as the US Secretary of State
to generally positive reviews. She also
began her presidential campaign by rolling out a series of serious policy
papers, while her competitor has only offered general policy statements that
are rife with contradictory proposals.
These
Republicans that are avoiding the Republican Convention are basically mortified
by the man that their party is about to officially nominate. These individuals are continuing to hold out
hope for some magical transformation of their presumed candidate into one that
can act “presidential”. So far, all to no avail.
As to Ms.
Clinton as a candidate, yes there are the minuses you have to consider.
You may
disagree with her views and you may believe she was foolish to push for the
intervention into the warring country of Libya.
And perhaps she was being arrogant in keeping her emails out of the
official State Department server, and she was greedy to take large speaking
fees when she was a private citizen.
But when she
is measured against other major-party candidates of recent times, Ms. Clinton
is well within established bounds of competence, knowledge, commitment and
integrity. She is not as Sen, Sasse had said about the election, “a dumpster fire candidate”. However, you cannot say that about the GOP nominee.
In Senator
Sasse attempt at trying to equate both of the candidates as being “unqualified products of a rigged or failed system”, that only feeds
the public cynicism, while it blurs the distinctions between them that should
not be blurred.
As has been
stated from all of the above, Hillary Clinton is a vetted politician that has
shown her capability and her faults in the political arena.
While on the
other hand, Hillary’s competition is a reality TV show billionaire celebrity
that refuses to publish his tax returns, and who continues to show that he is
unqualified to run this complicated and somewhat politically divided
nation.
But more
important, as The Post has stated,
Donald Trump is “extremely dangerous for
this republic”.
