MORE REASONS THAT TRUMP SHOULD NOT BE THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT
According to the GOP platform,
women that have abortions should be punished.
There is an
issue that has once again been raised with Donald Trump’s former bizarre comment about
punishing women that would seek and have an abortion.
The point is
that in some ways, based on what the Republican Party’s platform states on the
right to life of a fetus, and according to our laws, the women that seeks and have
an abortion, they actually should be punished.
The issue I’m
referring to is that according to the Republican party platform statement,
there are no exceptions for any reason for having an abortion. The party platform says the following, (and it has said this since 1984): “We
assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a
fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”
Since the
party also says that they believe that life begins at conception, any taking of
a life at any time is according to the current laws, a “murder”, and murder should be punished.
This is why
that going back to Ronald Reagan, all Republican presidents and presidential
candidates were anti-abortion, but they all had exceptions for rape, incest and
the life of the mother.
As to the
recent Republican candidates, Ted Cruz was the only one that does not have any
exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother, and Cruz is now out of
the race.
By having the
belief of life beginning at conception, and that an abortion is really taking a
life, then why would you only punish the doctor who performs the abortion and
not the woman who procures one? (Don’t get me wrong, I personally don’t
believe that a reasoning human life begins at conception, that takes time to develop.
And the human body sometimes aborts on its own, when things aren’t going right.
)
My point is
that if all the former presidents and presidential candidates have exceptions
for certain abortions, why not change the platform and put the issue to bed.
Today, if a
family member is found guilty of committing incest, they will go to
prison. Under those circumstances, as
has been shown by these former and current GOP
candidates, this would be an exception that would allow for a legal abortion.
But as it is
currently stated within their own political platform, Donald Trump’s stupid statement
about punishment was in fact, one-half correct.
That being that according to the party’s platform, any abortion is by
their definition, the taking of a life, and that is murder. And murder should
be punished. But Trump was only half
right because he also stated that the man that impregnated the woman should not be punished. As usual, Trump’s half-assed reasoning is
difficult to follow, but his newly adopted party is the one that needs to
revise their platform statement.
In his
interview with MSNBC’s Chris
Matthews, statements that Trump continues trying to walk back, Trump’s screw-up was very
telling in a couple of areas. First, it
was just one more of many rocks on the pile of why Donald Trump should not
become our American president.
But it also
once again, shows how out-of-sync the Republican Party is to have a party
platform that for more than 3 decades has declared something that the majority
of their party’s members do not follow, or agree.
