IN DEALING WITH TRUMP, THE GOP IS A “DAY LATE & A DOLLAR SHORT”
…Acting like a Fascist Dictator,
Donald Trump swearing crowd to vote for him.
The Republicans are reaping what
they have sown.
I remember
back when the worst words you ever heard from a presidential candidates was
when Newt Gingrich’s PAC organization in the 2012 election asked the Republican
candidates to use words against their Democratic opponents like “failure,” “pathetic,” “disgrace” and “incompetent”.
My, my, my,
how the world has changed.
Today, with a
thug like Trump running in the lead, besides the 4-letter swear words that you
need to cover your kids ears against, the other words we hear are Trump comments
like, Mitt Romney is a “failed candidate,”
Jeb Bush is “pathetic,” President
George W. Bush was “a liar, ”Sen.
Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is “a disgrace”
and President Obama is “totally
incompetent.”
Then Mitt
Romney comes on the scene and we hear him calling Donald Trump a “phony and a fraud”.
My question
now is of the media that’s currently making comments against Donald
Trump, where was that same media when they were praising Sarah Palin eight
years ago? If you recall, many main-stream publications and pundits back then
praised her “plain-spoken, combative way.” And it was disgusting when the conservative
editor of the Weekly Standard,
William Kristol, called Palin his “heartthrob.” Yuck.
Back then, as
one op-ed writer has now written, “Palin
knew next to nothing about national or international public policy, but she
almost celebrated that ignorance, playing to the anti-intellectualism and
anti-elitism of parts of the conservative base. Instead of pointing out that
knowledge and expertise are actually things to admire and acquire, not mock,
conservative intellectuals still expressed their admiration.”
It is terrific
that dozens of Republican foreign policy leaders have now agreed to sign an
open letter condemning Trump publicly and refusing to support his candidacy.
But prior to
Trump, as with Palin, there have been many previous situations where that same
kind of rejection was warranted.
However, many Republicans just refuse to accept that there is any
problems within their precious GOP,
and they of course attributed all such criticism totally to the “media’s bias”.
Now for 2016,
we have the strange issue of whom to blame for the rise of Donald
Trump?
Take the bizarre claim by one
conservative faction that claims that the rise of Donald Trump is really all
the fault of Barack Obama because he is such a weak president. Then there are the others that say it is
because Obama has been too strong, abusing his executive power and elevating
himself to the center stage.
But of course
the reality is that it was neither of these bizarre claims that caused the rise
of Donald Trump.
There is
a much simpler explanation for the rise of “Mr. Make America Great Again.”
For years the
Republicans have been feeding the American public that the country is in total
decline, and that all Americans have been betrayed by the Obama administration.
They have encouraged all the forces of their congressional obstructionism. And they continue to lie when they said that the power of government was with regular voting Americans,
when they know it’s with the top 1%. (And that’s where the nation’s
wealth continues to collect.) In addition, they fill their on-going
rhetoric with heavy bigotry and racism.
And what is
the real truth about the Obama administration and all Americans?
When Obama
took office, the nation was losing 100,000 jobs a month. The nation was in the worst recession since
the Great Depression. The national unemployment rate was 8+% and
growing and Wall Street had taken
away 40% or more of the American workers 401K’s value.
Obama’s
administration then went on to save the American auto industry and thousands of
those jobs. Because of his Obamacare, 15 million more people now
have health care coverage, and the home mortgage foreclosures started falling
after his first year in office and the loss of jobs declined.
We now are no
longer dependent on foreign oil and the price at the gas pump is lower that it
has been since the early 1970’s. Two
wars were slowly dialed down and many troops have been brought home and Obama
finally got Osama bin Laden. (President Bush failed that task for 7+
years.) The country currently has
more Green energy than ever before and because of the Dodd-Frank laws, the
chance of another economic melt-down today is far from happening again. The employment rate is now at only 4.9% and
more new jobs are being created every month.
No, everything
is not where it should be, but from what the president inherited, President Obama
certainly did not betray all Americans as the GOP has claimed. If
anything, because of the Republicans congressional obstructionism, it is the
Republicans that have betrayed all American’s by not doing their jobs of
dealing with the people’s business in Congress.
Because of them, our infrastructure of roads, bridges, dams, schools and
parks are continuing to crumble as they refuse to pass a long-term
Transportation Bill..
All that
Donald J. Trump has done for achieving his current 1st place position
was to merely and unashamedly embrace all of the Republican’s disturbing
approaches, saying plainly what the Republicans have been offering up, (behind every American’s back) for
years.
In making this
move, Mr. Trump hit the GOP Jack-Pot
of continuing to run in first place in the polls since last Summer.
The problem is
that Republican leaders should not have committed to never support any of the
president’s proposals, and they should have condemned Trump’s ideas and tactics
when he first introduced them a few years ago.
(Remember his Obama Birtherism
claims?)
Nuff said.
