CANDIDATES OTHER THAN TRUMP SHOULD BE IN THE “BULLS EYE”

…Three of four choices offered by the GOP

Most of the GOP candidates would explode the nation’s deficit.

OK, enough of our targeting “The Donald”.  It’s time to look at what we would get if we were to choose one of Trump’s competitors.

Every candidate and most Republicans against Trump seems to agree that a Trump in the White House would be disastrous, but what about if it were one of the others?

Regardless of which Republican you choose, all of those including Trump would increase the nation’s deficit by Trillions of dollars.  Yes, I said Trillions with a “T”.

As the Washington Post published this week: “All three [Trump, Rubio, Cruz] would blow up the deficit by trillions of dollars, losing more tax revenue as a share of economic output than any tax cut on record. Their health-care plans are virtually indistinguishable. All three promise to build a wall on the Mexican border, and both Cruz and Trump want to round up and deport 11 million undocumented immigrants. None accepts the scientific consensus on man-made climate change. All want to further restrict access to abortion and further expand access to guns.”

Doesn’t sound like anyone except perhaps John Kasich might have a real plan for America that makes an ounce of sense.

Let’s face it, very few of the Republican voters today care very much about the purity of conservative ideology.  If they did, Donald Trump’s views, which were originally very liberal and have now gone conservative, no one today really believes that he is a “real conservative”, yet he is still in 1st place.

And what about the other candidates and what they are offering in trying to sell themselves.

First, let’s take on their tax returns.

All the candidates have been on Trump’s case for pushing him to submit his tax returns.  All three of the others have stated that they turned in their tax returns.  But that’s not completely true.

The forms that Kasich, Cruz and Rubio have offered are their abbreviated tax documents.  These forms do not show charitable donations, incomes sources and the details of a complete tax form that all major nominees since 1980 have provided.  There is no comment on whether they will be offering what the other former candidates have previously submitted.

In addition, as much as everyone has something bad to say about Trump’s verbal vulgarities, one of the other candidates has also reverted to his own “gutter speak”.  It was Marco Rubio that referred to the size of Donald Trump’s genitals with Rubio’s “Big Hands” comment.

Cruz also tells us time and time again that we shouldn’t believe or trust anything that the “lamestream media” presents to the public.  But then he complains that this same media has held back exposés of Trump’s financial activities.  He accuses Trump of all kinds of negative activities that he says the media is holding back for the general election.

Now, Cruz knows well that’s not the way the media works.

If the media had a story on any of them, the media’s job is to be the first to get the story out to the public.  Media never holds back those kind of stories.

The Republican party is always the first to go after the publications and media fact-checkers that push for public transparency.  And here is one GOP candidate trying to claim that these same media groups are covering up for one of his competitors.

All of Trump’s competitors have jumped on the anti-Trump campaign including the hashtag “#NeverTrump campaign”.  Some even sell bumper sticker and hats on their websites with that hashtag.  But at the last debate, every one of them said they would support the eventual GOP nominee, even if the nominee was Donald Trump.  Sounds like total hypocrisy to me.

The real group that is responsible for Trump being in the lead and for the poor candidate choices lies with the Republican leadership.  Party leadership has turned a blind eye to Trump’s race-baiting and nationalism.  Even back when Trump spewed all that birther nonsense about President Obama’s citizenship and faith.

There was never a word from the party leadership when right-wing talk radio hosts rallied the base with their own racial rhetoric. Why should anyone, let alone Trump supporters, be swayed by the party’s protestations about such disgusting verbal garbage today?

The real issue is that in some ways, with all the negative comments that are offered from key conservatives such as Mitt Romney, Lindsay Graham, William Kristol and a multitude of anti-Trump pundits, there is something they all just can’t verbally force themselves to admit.

That being that, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders would make a better president than Donald J. Trump.
