SNL MUST BE SO HAPPY THAT SARAH PALIN IS BACK IN THE NEWS
…Sarah Palin………she’s baaaaaaack
One wonders, if Trump is
successful in Iowa, will Palin still be accompanying Trump’s stump speeches?
Seeing Sarah
Palin showing up on stage with Donald Trump makes all the sense in the
world. It’s like two peas in a pod.
But Ms. Palin
really blew it for me, and apparently for a lot of vets, as she tried to link her
former enlisted son’s recent domestic violence issue with PTSD and then blaming
that on President Obama. The Twitter and
Facebook world went wild on her accusations.
The vets were all saying PTSD is not an issue that should be
politicized.
But just as it
was when John McCain had to drop the idea of having a moderate running mate such
as Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman, and to beat Obama he had to try something with a
little glitter, and someone from the angry grass-roots of the far right. So he decided on the half-term, female
governor of Alaska. But if Trump doesn’t
keep Ms. Palin on a very short leash, he may not continue his positive attitude
about her personal endorsement.
Back in 2008,
the far-right radio talkers such as Rush Limbaugh had been previously saying
about McCain, “He is not the choice of
real conservatives because the establishment has long sought to rid the party
of real conservative influence.” Palin was McCain’s response to those
Limbaugh statements.
As the Washington Post writer, E.J Dionne had
recently written: “A moderate VP choice
would have been too much for Limbaugh’s legions. So McCain, facing a full-scale
revolt on the floor of the Republican convention, gave up on Lieberman and
Ridge, turning instead to Palin. A new hero for the Limbaugh-Fox News disciples
was born.”
But after the
2008 loss to Obama, Palin became the darling of the Tea Party, which is just a new name for the same old, angry, far
right grass-roots conservatives that have been in the party forever.
Now, after she
began fading as the primary campaigner for the Tea Party, Palin tried a number of ways to stay in the limelight,
but all those activities were to no avail.
First, she got
dumped by Fox News, then she did the
only thing that she has ever been good at. Palin quit her own pay-for-view
television channel.
Yes, as one
internet publication wrote, “Palin spent
a little more than a minute letting her 3 remaining TV fans know that she was
bailing out.” Palin then admitted
that she was dropping the network show because she wanted her voice to be heard by
the widest possible audience. And that
was definitely not with the few people that she had conned into dropping ten
bucks a month to watch a channel that she was rarely on.
Sarah Palin
has only ever been good at one thing, and that’s quitting. Fox News dumped
Palin because she was no longer relevant. So, this quitting, half-term
governor just retreated to her free Facebook
bunker.
Now, in her
new role, what will Palin be saying that causes Donald Trump to cringe and have
to back-pedal or correct? But what do
you expect from not one boasting reality show star, but to have Donald Trump
standing beside another reality performer that also blares out totally
outrageous statements? Perfect!
If all this
activity is an early look at where the Republican Party is headed, then it
could be the beginning of the end. But
it may still be entertaining to watch.
The point of all thus is that
only a few of the Tea Party types seem to understand that much of what this
group continues to ask of our government just isn't going to happen.
The focus of
these far-right conservatives has always been to have severe and radical
reductions in the size of our government.
And those like Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have been promising just
that, But it is well accepted that no
Republican president, including Ronald Reagan, could have ever made that
happen. Americans do not want the EPA,
Planned parenthood, Medicare and Medicaid to disappear, and for sure they don’t
want Social Security privatized as the conservatives want.
As an example,
today the conservatives want to repeal Obamacare
and take away healthcare from 17 million Americans. No, they don’t want to improve it, just make
it go away for millions of Americans.
They denounced the ACA (Obamacare) as a socialist health care program, when its
roots were directly from Republicans, originally through the conservative Heritage Foundation. Republican Governor Mitt Romney’s “Romneycare” in Massachusetts was based
on these same Heritage Foundation’s
proposals for the GOP.
These Tea Partiers continually say they want
to “take their country back”. But they never seem to explain from whom they
want to take it back from, (except maybe Obama). And they never say what they would do with
the country if they succeeded….?
But now Palin
has a new platform that is perfect for her.
She gets to promote all the vague things that Donald Trump promises
America, (without giving us any details) and
she can now be just as outrageous as Trump.
Actually, I
agree that the far right should listen to Palin and realize that with her, they
are just going to be disappointed again.
“We are mad, and we’ve been had,”
Palin declared, and I think she may be right.
And what she’s
selling by promoting what Trump is offering is just another version of the Tea Party saying: “Play it again Sam”.
2016 just
continues to get more interesting.
