DONALD TRUMP & TED CRUZ ARE WHERE THEY ARE BECAUSE OF ANGRY AMERICANS
…The Crazy Ted Cruz
“I’m mad as hell and not taking it anymore!”……Sound familiar?
In my writing about politicians, I usually try
to substantiate my reasoning about a candidates by only using the real facts, or by
quoting the politician directly.
With Donald Trump. I have continually made my
case with him, showing that he circumvents being a serious candidate because he
never gets into the details of what he says he would do for the country.
He says he’s “Going to make America great again!”
But you never hear any details on just how he’s going to do that. He says he’s going to make the US military
even more powerful, but you never hear the details of how is he going to pay
for it. And just how is he going to get
Mexico to pay for that southern border wall?
What’s he going to do….send them an invoice with payment due in 30 days?
There are never any details for how he is going
to do all that he promises. I have
become very tired of hearing about his classic promise of a, “Chicken in every pot!” for every
American family. His statements has been
constant, almost every day since last Summer.
His nonsensical response to why he won't explain his statements is, “I’m not giving away the details of my plan until I win.”
So, that’s my comments about dealing with
Donald Trump.
Now with the Texas Senator Ted Cruz, I have a
much different feeling and approach.
Deep down, I just don’t like Mr. Cruz.
I not only do not like him, I don’t trust him, and he basically scares
the hell out of me when I think of him possibly sitting in the White House…..God forbid.
There is little that I agree with Donald Trump
on, but when Trump says “Ted Cruz is a
nasty guy,” and most of Ted’s Senate colleagues agree, I have to also throw
my hat into that ring.
I agree that Cruz is highly intelligent and a
masterful debater, and he didn’t get his credentials accidently. He has worked and studied hard to achieve his
current position.
But as it turns out, I am not the only opinion
writer that feels this way about the junior Texas Senator.
Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post recently
wrote the following about Senator Cruz, and I agree whole heartedly.
Per Ms. Marcus: “I knew before seeing Cruz on the stump that he is smart — dangerously
so from my ideological perspective. I knew from watching him operate in
Washington that he is ruthlessly ambitious. Seeing him in action, it’s clear
he’s adept at retail politics as well.”
Yes, I agree that he is also a master at
face-to-face retail politics. In fact,
he is so convincing on the stump, Ms. Marcus stated that, “….the surprise from watching Cruz on the
campaign trail: Ideology aside, he comes off as . . . rather likable.”
Oh yes, the senator can be a smooth as silk
when he gets with the people.
Never mind that much of what he says is false, (Per the fact checking PolitiFACT organization,
approximately 65% of what Cruz says on the stump is partially or totally
false). But he is so convincing,
many of his misspoken comments are actually applauded.
Ms. Marcus also wrote the following as an
example of how he gives “non-answers”
to potential voter’s questions: “ In one
telling moment in Washington, N.H., a young mother of four challenged Cruz
about whether he would provide paid family leave. His eventual answer boiled
down to nothing: “ ‘Politicians love to campaign on giving away free stuff,”
but, as with the minimum wage, market forces mean such intervention would hurt
workers, not help them.’ But he leavened
this response with personal questions (How old? Boys or girls?) and, believe it
or not, empathy: He knows about being the ‘baby brother with two older
sisters’; he understands the ‘hard challenge’ of juggling work and family. The
woman may have left unconvinced, but Cruz’s deft response revealed a politician
both skillful and relatable. The crowd applauded.”
This is classic Cruz.
He did not directly answer the young mother’s
question, but he basically did say that no way in hell would he vote for paid
family leave, or a minimum wage increase, and he’s already admitted that on his
first day in office he would take away health care from 17 million Americans.
I have always said that, more often than not,
the American public is “smarter than the
average bear” when it comes to voting for the right candidate.
But today, it is obvious that since the
American public has been watching a non-functional US Congress for the last few
years; they’ve been having to deal with decades of a nation with stagnant
wages, with increases in national poverty and now the fear of Muslim extremists
attacking the Homeland, Americans are both scared and angry as hell.
When people are angry and scared, they tend to
also make poor decisions. I think that is one explanation as to why both Trump
and Cruz are doing so well against the more moderate Republican candidates.
Because Trump and Cruz seem to be competing for
that angry-outsider politician role, some conservative voters are probably torn
between these two candidates. However, the good news is that even with all
those that attend both Trump’s and Cruz’ political events, it is amazing and
promising that so many “undecided voters”
there are still out there.
Ms. Marcus summed up my feeling about Cruz
perfectly for me when she ended her column with the following: “State polls have Trump firmly in the lead;
New Hampshire, unlike Iowa, is not evident Cruz territory. But the Texan’s
skill on the stump is undeniable. That he manages not to come off as a nasty
guy makes him all the more dangerous.”
Hear-hear Ruth…hear-hear.
