THERE’S A GOOD REASON THAT MAINSTREAM JEWS ARE DEMOCRATS
...The Jewish billionaire
casino magnate, Sheldon Adelson
Most American Jews are not fooled
by the far-right Republican Jewish Coalition.
First, let me
make it clear that I am not of the Jewish faith, nor do I have any negative
issues with American Jews. However, I do have an interest in following the Jewish
billionaire casino magnate, Sheldon Adelson, and his efforts for getting the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) donors
out of the Democratic Party, (where they
have been for decades), and into the Republican Party.
Today, the
center of Adelson’s efforts seems to be for supporting the RJC’s harsh,
far-right positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to continue
questioning the Obama Iranian nuclear deal.
The focus
today with Adelson is the current competition within the GOP for the so called “Adelson
Primary”. This is the unofficial
name given to the political competition for obtaining financial support from
Sheldon Adelson. Politico has
reported that the Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio has “reached out to Adelson more often than any
other 2016 Republican candidate,” even more than the Junior Texas Senator,
Ted Cruz. Also that the casino magnate views Rubio as the “future of the Republican Party.”
But no matter how hard the RJC tries, only a handful of the hard-right Jewish billionaires are as hawkish as Adelson or those in the RJC. The RJC today doesn't offer any support for the wider agenda that most American Jews actually vote for, which has always tended to be politically more progressive. The polls have found that 80% of American Jewish voters want Israel to suspend settlement construction in the West Bank or outside core settlement blocs, and 84% supported the outlines of the Obama Iranian nuclear deal being negotiated.

The advocacy
organization named “J Street” did exit polling during the 2014 election that
found only 8% of American Jews
were in support of the far-right issues.
The issues that mattered most to this more progressive group of Jews were the
economy @ 44%, healthcare @ 31% and Social Security and Medicare @ 20%.
The views of
American Jews as a whole are much more moderate than the hawkish positions that
the RJC promotes.
The reality is
that the American Jewish community simply is not interested in maintaining a
hard-right Israel policy. The story goes that this is what motivated Alex
Soros, son of billionaire George Soros, to recently start a super PAC called Bend The Arc. This new PAC focuses on traditional Jewish values such as the alleviating of
poverty, protecting the environment, and it never mentions Israel.
So, what does
all this mean for billionaire Adelson and the GOP in 2016?
Apparently,
regardless of all the money that Adelson spends on the 2016 elections, it is
appearing that it will again all be spent in vain. This is just as it was with the millions that
Adelson spent on the 2012 elections.
Unless there is a serious change in what the mainstream Jewish community
supports, Adelson will once again just be throwing his money down the drain in
trying to make the American Jewish community into something they do not want it to
be.
Let’s hope
that the status quo with the American Jewish community continues on the path of
reasonableness that it is on today.
