THE CONSERVATIVES CONTINUE FALLING INTO THE CLINTON TRAP

Marc Thiessen: Former GOP Speechwriter

The current Republican candidates for 2016 aren’t talking about what they would do for Americans.

The Republican 2016 candidates, and their national reporter pundits, have obviously decided that instead of beating on each other for the Republican nomination, they will instead, all attack the only available Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.

And the Clinton campaign couldn’t be happier.

Conservative writers such as Marc Thiessen, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, and for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.  (Not exactly the best references to have on your resume’.), Marc and all of his co-harts are falling all over themselves in trying to personally re-define the former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State.

You know, probably the most vetted female politician....ever!

Yes, I can seriously say that the Clinton staff couldn’t be happier because, this approach by the conservatives is coming across like those sensational stories you find in the supermarket tabloids.

As a case in point, Thiessen’s big deal this time was about the Clinton campaign van she is using, and that she was being driven, and not driving it herself.  Thiessen also was making a big deal that Mrs. Clinton went to a Chipotle fast food store wearing large dark glasses in trying to disguise herself.  Wow, now there’s a scoop!

First, Mrs. Clinton has been driven by the US government Secret Service ever since she was the First Lady in the 1990’s.  She has always had that service as have all the still living Presidents, First Ladies and their children.  Mrs. Clinton, and all the declared candidates, will have that same service once they all declare.  So, whoopee for Marc!

As to her dark shades?  Could it be that there was bright sunshine outside?  If Hillary was trying to disguise herself, she could easily have just asked her Secret Service team to get the container of to-go Chipotle tacos, chips and drinks.

Thiessen then made a big deal about how Mrs. Clinton is not driving herself around Iowa and New Hampshire.  He just had to add that Scott Walker had announced that he plans on visiting all of New Hampshire’s 10 counties on his Harley-Davidson. He even said, “Word is that he [Walker] will actually be driving himself.”

Well, if Walker is on a Harley, one would hope he would be driving himself.  He would look rather stupid hanging on behind a Secret Service officer.

Thiessen added that in Concord, Jeb Bush said at a GOP event that when he goes to Chipotle, “I Drive my own car. Park my own car. Get out of my own car.” The former Florida governor added, “We normally cook our own Mexican food at home…. it’s pretty good.”

This is all getting so ridiculous.

The Clinton people know that the more the opposition goes personally after Hillary, and the more they are not talking about the specifics of their own plans for all Americans, the better it is for the Democrats in 2016.

Those that are coming to see and hear the candidates this early, they aren’t there to hear what the opposition candidates are doing and what fast-food they are eating!  They want to know what you, Mr. or Mrs. Candidate, “What will you do for us if you are elected president!”

Mr. Thiessen and many of the candidates are all falling into the Clinton campaign trap of them going after her on a personal basis.  If you read the comments on Thiessen’s latest article about Hillary that are posted on-line at the Washington Post site, the majority of the posts are from readers basically saying, “So what?  What does driving your own car to Chipotle have to do with helping me if you were president?”

Thiessen does bring up one point that is real.  That point is whether Hillary will be the only game in town.  That is an issue that most of us do hope that another viable candidate or two, appears for allowing for a real primary challenge.  At least, there should be some good debates or real targeted questions from the press or moderators for Hillary to answer.

Thiessen is correct that the Democrats ought to have some concern about this situation.   Thiessen wrote the following, “The Democratic Party is betting everything on Clinton. But the problem with betting on one horse is that if your horse stumbles, you’re in big trouble. Republicans have a plethora of credible choices. If Scott Walker falters, they have Marco Rubio. If Rubio falters, they have Jeb Bush. If Bush falters, they have a half dozen other choices.  But if Clinton falters, Democrats have . . . who?”

However, with writers of articles like Thiessen's, and with the other candidates all going after issues such as dark glasses and being driven instead of driving herself, Clinton will not falter.

The Democrats and Mrs. Clinton will just keep talking about their plans for all Americans, about working to get big-money out of politics, about creating jobs for fixing the nation’s infrastructure and by increasing clean energy programs.  They will continue talking about all this, as the GOP keeps bringing up former non-scandals and old news nonsense.

Mr. Thiessen, you and yours, please keep up the good work.
