FOX & RACISM JUST SEEM TO GO TOGETHER
This spelling is wrong. Should be FAUX NEWS.COM.
OK, everyone
that has read my columns and blogs for the past seven years knows how I really
feel about FOX (so called) NEWS. Yes, in my book, I have always said that it
should only be referred to as FAUX NEWS, and that’s still giving
them too much room by continuing to call it "news".
What has
now raised its ugly head at FOX has been the latest “FOX-approach” to the recent racial
issues that have come about in Ferguson, Missouri, with the killing of the un-armed
African American teenager, Michael Brown.
The racial
issue I’m referring to was based on a highly questionable interview by the,
very white, FOX NEWS commentator, Megyn
Kelly, and her interview with the black
pastor, Robert White, from the Peace Of Mind Church.
…FOX NEWS, Megyn Kelly
Now, let me first qualify a couple of points.
I use the reference of Ms. Kelly being “very white”, because the racism that was
displayed by the FOX interviewer was
classic, "white vs black", FAUX NEWS racism.
I would also like to qualify that I am no absolute
supporter of the MSNBC host of their
Politics Nation show, Rev. Al Sharpton.
However, it was very obvious that Ms. Kelly’s
intention for setting up this interview with Pastor White, was just for FOX NEWS to be able to offer a black
pastor that would criticize the recent comments and actions of Rev.
Sharpton in Ferguson.
When the Pastor countered Ms. Kelly’s negative statements
about Rev. Sharpton by saying that he was on the same page as Rev. Sharpton
about the killing of Michael Brown, Ms. Kelly spent the rest of the interview
in trying to get the pastor to condemn and demean Rev. Sharpton. She kept saying things like, “Didn’t you previously say that all Rev. Sharpton wanted was a
media photo shot in Ferguson?” But
the pastor continually responded saying that what he and Rev. Sharpton wanted was for
the facts to avail themselves about the Ferguson police officer shooting of an unarmed Mr. Brown.
The classic FOX part of the interview was in watching Ms.
Kelley trying to bait the pastor, and then seeing the interview continue to
blow up in Ms. Kelly’s face. What was
even more strange was in seeing someone from FOX actually acting as if it
was important to actually have the facts of the case. For someone from FOX NEWS to actually
think that having “real facts” was
important!!!! That was the amazing part!
The more that
the discussion on the TV continued, the more it became obvious that they had
brought Pastor White on to FOX NEWS just for condemning Rev.
Al. It was also obvious that Ms. Kelly's goal was for claiming that Rev. Al was “stoking up
racial tension in the country” in light of Michael Brown’s killing.
As I said, I
have my own issues regarding Rev. Al Sharpton. But I do feel he has been very good in
helping deal with the potential US police brutality that has seemed to have increased over the past few years. Not just against America's African Americans, but for poor
whites, Hispanics and other minorities in our highly diverse nation.
While
watching Ms. Kelly and the pastor, it became obvious that Pastor White was “smarter than the average bear” and had gotten himself on FOX NEWS, just to get his message out on FOX's conservative air waves.
But I must
admit, it was great just to see FOX get beat at their own game, while realizing
that Pastor White knew exactly what he was doing.
For just this
once, Ms. Kelly was completely correct that having all the facts was very important.
Too bad that this was an anomaly for the way Ms. Kelly and FOX
NEWS usually operates.
