SARAH PALIN, TED CRUZ, & ANDREW BREITBART, WHAT MORE COULD THE DEMOCRATS ASK FOR?

…The former ½ Alaska Governor,
Sarah Palin
The American public appears to
have finally had their fill of Sarah Palin.
I heard a
recent report that really made me grin.
The report said that in the latest national poll, 54% of
American voters say they've heard enough from Sarah Palin. They were very definite that they would
prefer that she be less outspoken on future political issues. That 54% included nearly two-thirds of all
Democrats, a majority (57%) of independents, and nearly four-in-10 Republicans...Finally!
Ms. Palin has
lost so much support that her most common forums today for spouting her bizarre words
of wisdom are the less than respected Drudge
Report and the bottom of the barrel Breitbart
News Report. In fact, on
Breitbart’s web site, Sarah Palin wrote that Obama’s “lawlessness” now required presidential impeachment. Really? Palin even stated, “His unsecured border crisis is the last
straw that makes the battered wife say, ‘no mas,’ ” (I believe that comment probably exhausted Ms. Palin’s Hispanic
vocabulary.) Then she added: “Opening our borders to a flood of illegal
immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America.”
This was just
one of Palin’s many ignorant slams against President Obama this week, and it
was made along with support from one of the strangest groups of Republican
politicians. Palin and this Republican group were
all making these type of comments about the presidents failure to visit the
border during his fund-raising trip to Texas this week.
The reason I
bring this up, is that this strange group that criticized the president
included the Republican Arizona Senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake and both
of the Texas Senators, John Cornyn and the same Senator that John McCain once
referred to as a “Wacko Bird,” Texas
Junior Senator, Ted Cruz.
Senator Cruz
stated that, “President Obama today is
down in the state of Texas, but sadly he’s not visiting the border. He’s
visiting Democratic fat cats to collect checks, and apparently there’s no time
to look at the disaster, at the devastation that’s being caused by his
policies. . . . It is a disaster that is the direct consequence of President
Obama’s lawlessness.”
This is one of
the very rare instances that Senator McCain actually agrees with his “Wacko Bird”, Senator Cruz. But these two GOP senators, including the “Wacko-Bird”,
the two other Republican senators and Ms. Palin….they are all totally wrong
that this border disaster is due to “the
direct consequence of President Obama’s lawlessness.”
The cause for
the mass exodus of children from Central America is due to the 2008 Human Trafficking Law that was
passed and signed by President Bush in the last days of his presidency. This
law ended the rapid deportation of unaccompanied minors who were coming
illegally from countries other than those countries directly connected to
America’s borders. The law basically guarantees a long stay by promising the
minors a process that can take up to 18 months. During these months, the minors are often
placed with their US family members.
These families then have little incentive for the children to show up
for their deportation hearings.
Sorry Sarah, a
presidential impeachment requires “high
crimes or misdemeanors”, of which, this law from President Bush is neither,
and if it were, as usual, you have gone after the wrong president.
The other part
of this issue is that the law passed in both houses of Congress by unanimous
consent. So it was bipartisan and was
initially, well intentioned.
Unfortunately, it has been exploited by the same individuals that it was
targeted at, and the law is actually what started this major emigration of the
children of Central America.
Now, I must also
agree with the critics of the president for his not taking a little time for a
short visit to the border. I agree that
the optics of his not making the trip gives the appearance that he is
deliberately trying to avoid the issue.
It is also giving his Republican critics the opportunity to keep calling
this his “Katrina moment”. That is, like the
one where President George W. was photographed looking out of Air Force One’s
window looking down at the Hurricane Katrina damage instead of immediately
visiting the affected area.
On the Senate
floor this week, Senator Cornyn even noted that while in Dallas, Obama would only be, “500 miles from where the problem is. How can
you have a humanitarian crisis, as the White House has called this, and not
want to go see it for yourself?” The
president could have avoided high-profile comments like this that were of
course all over FOX News, by taking a 1-2 hour trip to the Texas border.
The good news
is that even the Republican senators agree that the 2008 Trafficking Law is, as
Senator Flake stated, “the root of it or
the main part of it.” Even Senator Cornyn agreed that “we need to change that 2008 law because it makes it so these immigrants
who come across will not be detained.”
Unfortunately,
as usual, Senator Cruz just keeps telling his same untruths. Per Mr. Cruz: “This explosion is the direct consequence of the president’s lawlessness,”
he once again repeated, even adding, “The
only response that will stop this humanitarian disaster is for President Obama
to start enforcing the law.”
This idiot
doesn’t seem to understand that the reason for the problem of all the youths
coming across the border is that the law is in fact, being enforced!
As the old
saying goes, regarding Senator Cruz, a Harvard Law School graduate: “You send them to school…you buy them the
books…..and they eat the pages.”
Please keep it
up Senator Cruz, we opinion writers appreciate all of your efforts.
