Twitter finally did their job in banning this Georgia Rep

 

One thing about Twitter being one of Silicon Valley’s key new technology companies.  Twitter had finally developed a system for determining how to deal with misinformation on their platform posts.

In this system today, if the individual commits two or three misinformation strikes, that earns them a 12 hour account lock-out.  Four strikes prompts a weeklong suspension.  Five or more strikes can get someone permanently removed from Twitter.  (The system uses artificial intelligence to identify posts about the Coronavirus that are misleading enough to cause harm to people.)

 (Even though they have a system, it needs to be far more strict in its lockouts for anyone offering misinformation.)

But what occurred last week with Ms. Greene was appropriate.

Twitter said this Sunday that it had banned the personal account of the far-right House Representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene, for multiple violations of the platform’s COVID 19 misinformation policy.  This latest strike against the female firebrand whose embrace of conspiracy theories has been called, “a cancer for the GOP.”  These type of violations, also led the House to boot her from the committees that she was assigned to as a newly elected representative.

This Georgia Republican’s Twitter account was permanently suspended under the “strike” system that Twitter launched just last March. 

In a statement on the messaging app, Telegram, Greene later blasted Twitter’s move as being “un-American”.  (Allowing misinformation is un-American...?)  Greene wrote that her account was suspended after tweeting statistics from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which happens to be a quasi-government database that includes unverified and misinformed raw data.  They have been criticized by legitimate operations for offering their false information.

Green wrote on Telegram that: “Twitter is an enemy to America and can’t handle the truth,” (Interesting that her information is so far from the truth.)   Greene added: “That’s fine, I’ll show America we don’t need them [Twitter] and it’s time to defeat our enemies.” (So, she’s calling Twitter, an “enemy”…?)  

This seems appropriately in line with all of Greene’s false information.  Many items of Greene’s come directly from her political leader, Donald Trump.  She has been a supporter of Trump since, even before he legally lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.

Twitter had previously suspended Greene’s personal account for periods ranging from 12 hours to a full week.  This was again, due to her posting more misinformation. 

Unfortunately, the ban does not affect her official Twitter account, @RepMTG. 

Just one more item that is questionable about how Twitter manages their platforms.
