WE NOW SEE THAT SOME TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE ALSO LIARS!
…This was the original CNN photo
before it was crudely photo-shopped.
Since Trump tells his supporters
the polls are never correct, the word is: “Whatever they say Trump's poll
number is, add nine.”
Well, Donny
Jr. has stuck his foot in his mouth one more time.
Donald Trump
Jr. posted a doctored image that would have made his father's Gallup
presidential approval rating look 10 percentage points higher than it actually
is.
Of course,
just like his father, at first Trump Jr. refused to acknowledge countless
requests to correct the obviously photo-shopped and manipulated image after he
posted it to Instagram later in the day. It wasn’t until the next afternoon, by
which tens of thousands of people had already seen and shared or endorsed his
father's bogus 50% approval rating.
Here is an
explanation as to how it all happened:
First, there
was the still photo-frame above from John King on CNN who was attempting to fact-check President Trump's recent claim
that he had “better approval numbers than
Obama at this point in the presidency, by far.”
Someone, had
photo-shopped the CNN still shot,
and changed the Trump 40% approval rating to 50%. Of course, Obama’s approval by this point in
his first term was 45%, so once again Trump Sr. was lying as his approval is
only the 40%.
So Junior just
posted the fake image showing a 50% approval that artificially inflated Trump's
rating to be higher than Obama's
(I Tried to show the photo-shopped picture but it wouldn't down load.)
Our
narcissistic president who obsesses over crowd sizes, polling numbers and his
popularity, this was perfect fodder for him to latch on to.
CNN’s King was hardly the first reporter to disprove one of Trump's polling
boasts, but the CNN segment annoyed
many of the president's hardcore supporters. They responded with: “Trump is near 50% approval. CNN
is absolute Fake news,” read a typical complaint on Reddit's
far-right “The_Donald” board.
There is this statement about the polls that comes directly from Trump’s avid supporters: “Whatever Trump's poll number is, add
nine points.”
In any case,
someone pasted a false “50%” where CNN's real “40%” had been, and the crudely doctored freeze frame began to
spread across the Trump Internet.
“Trumps doing big things people! No one can
take him down!” wrote an Instagram user who shared the image
several hours before it ended up on Trump Jr.'s page, in front of his 1.2
million followers.
“Amazing,” Trump Jr. wrote. “I guess there is a magic wand to make things
happen and @realdonaldtrump seems to have it. #MAGA #amreicafirst.”
The initial
surge of comments that followed Trump Jr.'s post were overwhelmingly positive
as the Trump fans thrilled at the president's inflated approval rate.
But within
minutes, people began to inform Trump Jr. that something was wrong.
“Yes, that 'magic wand' is Photoshop's Magic
Wand tool,”
chrisconradie1 wrote to Trump Jr., referring to the “software of choice” for making fake photos.
If you are able to look at
the photo-shopped version, the "50%” was misaligned with the text over the
original CNN graphic, and its
background was a slightly different shade of red. Also, by zooming in, one
could see that the original "40%”
was still visible underneath the fake number.
It's still
unclear how Trump Jr. found this fake 50% image, or why he decided to share it,
or why he still left it up for a day and a half. Neither he nor his
representative responded to questions from The Washington Post sent the next
morning.
However, by
midafternoon, the bogus image had appropriately disappeared from Junior’s
Instagram account.
But that was way too
little too late?
