FORMER MEMBER OF BUSH ADMINISTRATION ASHAMED OF THE GOP

...T.T. Robinson, political correspondent.

The current Republican front-runner does not represent the values of traditional Republicans.

If you get a chance, please try to take a few minutes and look up an article in the Washington Post by T. T. Robinson.

You may have never heard of Ms. Robinson, as she is the political correspondent for: NextGen MilSpouse, which I have learned is an online magazine and newsletter for the 1.1 million US military spouses living around the globe.

But Ms. Robinson is much more than a political correspondent.  She had formerly worked on the George W. Bush 2004 presidential campaign and on the Presidential Inaugural Committee.  She was also honored to receive an appointment in Dubya Bush’s White House administration.

Oh, by the way, the title of her Post article is, “Why I’m ashamed to be Republican”.

The reason I am asking you to look up Ms. Robinson’s article is to see what affect the current Republican leader for the presidential nomination is having on someone that has been a life-long and devoted member of the Republican party.

This individual writes about how she had previously regarded the Republican party of which she was a part, in fact, a part right at the very heart of the party in Washington DC.

In the article, Ms. Robinson writes, ”…my fondest memories are from those years; it was an incredible time to be alive. I was (and still am) truly proud to have been a part of it all.”

What she remembers so fondly were “…a party that fought to give more funding, better equipment and training to my husband, a Navy pilot. The party that pressed for veterans’ health reform. The party that encouraged and promoted the growth of small businesses.”

She also remembers that, ”…more than anything, it was the people. Her colleagues were compassionate, innovative and enthusiastic.”  She was also proud of “…a party that gave us a president who delivered the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief program to combat HIV in Africa.”

She even wrote that, “At the opening of Bush’s presidential library in Dallas three years ago, I was again surrounded by those colleagues. When President Obama was introduced, every person in attendance rose in thunderous applause. I realized then what made that group of colleagues so special: our respect for the Office of the President.”

So, why does someone like this, someone that was born to a conservative, strong, Catholic household, a young woman who first voted for George H.W. Bush, why is she “ashamed to be a Republican” today?
….. The current isolation and protectionist Republican candidate.

This last month, Ms. Robinson and her colleagues had a kind of “class reunion”.  At this get-together, she wrote: “…tears came to my eyes as I listened to Bush speak about what made our country great. We fought for inclusion, not isolationism. We were patriots, not protectionists, and we worked to advance freedom, not fear.”

This is how Ms. Robinson answered that question of “why”:

I was proud to be a Republican. The GOP I worked for, fundraised for and fundamentally believed in and put forward candidates who reflected my values. But now? I’m embarrassed to be a Republican because of who is leading in the polls. We’ve become a party that preys on the discouraged, not one that fosters hope. We’re incentivizing anger, not integrity. We tear down others to promote ourselves. If our current front-runner is the GOP candidate, I won’t vote Republican in November.

I guess I couldn’t have put it any better than that.
