DEMOCRATS ALLOW GOP TO TAKE CREDIT FOR RECOVERING ECOMOMY
…The new Senate Majority Leader,
Mitch McConnell, tells his first "official" lie in the Senate.
Lies, Lies and more lies. How does the Republican leadership even get to sleep
at night?
OK, all you
out there that follow the political news. You
do know who the nation’s Republicans
are, don’t you?
Oh you know,
the ones who for years did all those things that increased the negative effects
of the 2008 Great Recession, and who
then falsely screamed about the so called ravages of the “Obama economy” over the past six years.
Yeah, those Republicans.
Well, now,
after less than 72 hours of their taking over both houses in the legislature,
they have decided to take credit for all the good news regarding the US economy.
The newly
minted Senate Majority Leader, Mitch
McConnell, had the unmitigated gall to use his first Senate floor speech to
make the case that the latest good economic news was because of the Republican
take-over of the US House and Senate.
Per Mr.
McConnell, “After so many years of
sluggish growth, we’re finally starting to see some economic data that can
provide a glimmer of hope. The uptick
appears to coincide with the biggest political change of the Obama
Administration’s long tenure in Washington: the expectation of a new Republican
Congress. So this is precisely the right time to advance a positive, pro-growth
agenda.”
Huh?
This comes a
week after Grover Norquist, the “we don’t
never want anything but spending-cuts-and-no-tax-increases-ever” idiot,
also tried to take credit for the improved US economic news.
Mo Elleithee,
communications director for the Democratic National Committee,
properly put it in an e-mail when he just said: “Hahahahahahahahahaha."
But the fact
that the Republicans had the brass to even try to take credit for the good
economic news is mainly due to.........the Democrats.
Even though
the president did try to talk up the economy before the mid-term elections, the
real problem was all the many losing Democrats who ran away from the president
faster than a victim in a “Jaws” movie during the elections. As the final
result, plenty of good news on the US economy went untold, and of course, the
Democrats lost big-time.
Before the
November vote, gas prices had already dipped nationally below $3 a gallon.
Today, the national average price is below $2.20 a gallon with many states
reporting prices below $2. In the third quarter of 2014, the economy grew 5%. That hasn’t occurred since 2003. The
unemployment rate dropped to 5.8% with
214,000 jobs added for October 2014. The number of new jobs then jumped to
312,000 in November. And the number for December 2014 was 252,000 new jobs, another new
record.
President
Obama is the only Democrat so far willing to toot his horn on the economy
improvements of last year. He obviously
plans to keep on rightfully claiming credit as he travels around the country in
the coming weeks before his State-of-the-Union
(SOTU) speech. Obviously, someone
has to tell the story, if only to thwart the Republican claim that their
complete control of Congress is responsible for our nation’s brighter economic
days.
Other
Democrats will hopefully join in, but will that have a “too-little-too-late” feel? Probably.
It never
surprises me when either the Republican Party or their TV shill, Fox News, takes to universally offering
bare-faced lies directly to the American public.
Will the
Americans ever wake up?
Hopefully.
