RUSSIAN RADIO IN THE US, TRIES TO SPREAD LIES JUST LIKE FOX NEWS
Russian radio in the US should join
forces with those similar to themselves, such as Fox News or Rush Limbaugh.
OK, so how
many of you are aware of a cable news network called “RT America”.
Well, the RT
stands for “Russia Today”, and the US network is totally funded by the Russian
Government. Yep, it is registered as an
autonomous non-profit organization funded by the federal budget of Russia
through their Federal Agency on Press and
Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. (Do you think the agency's name is long enough?)
An American
journalist, Liz Wahl, that was the
anchor for the network, has now proceeded to make Comrade Vladimir Putin’s
enemies list.
Ms. Wahl
stunned her viewers last week, when, at the end of her 5 PM broadcast, she
announced her resignation from the channel.
Even though
the announcement was stunning, Ms. Wahl’s decision to quit the network was a
long time coming.
In an
exclusive interview with The Daily Beast,
she stated to them that, “When I came on
board from the beginning I knew what I was getting into...but I think I tried to stay as objective as I could. However,
I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes
the actions of Putin."
Due to the
repeated attempts by her superiors at the network to censor her work and distort
the truth, this is what ultimately convinced Wahl that she would have to depart
from the network.
“As a reporter on this network I have faced
many ethical and moral challenges.”
It is important to understand that Ms. Wahl was from a family whose grandparents came here as refugees during the Hungarian revolution. She has stated that it is now ironic that she was leaving the same, previously Soviet forces, from which her family decades ago had to escape. Ms. Wahl told this to her network viewers, immediately following a bogus report claiming that the new Ukrainian government, which ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, is composed mainly of fascists and neo-Nazis.
She stated, “I’m very lucky to have grown up here in the
United States. I am the daughter of a veteran. My partner is a physician at an American
military base. Personally, I cannot be
part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin. I am proud to be an
American and believe in disseminating the truth and that is why after this
newscast I’m resigning.”
Ms. Wahl then
stared directly into the camera before the network finally cut to a commercial
break.
Wahl’s
announcement came on the heels of another on-air act of not following the
Kremlin's script.
Just days
before Ms. Wahl quit, another RT host, Abby Martin,
ended her program called, “Break the Set”
by denouncing Russia’s military intervention in the Ukraine.
RT management
then announced that they would be sending Martin to the Ukrainian region of Crimea which is currently
occupied by Russian troops. Ms. Martin has so far refused this offer from RT.
Martin was
praised in many quarters for her independence, and she still remains an
employee of the RT network.
Wahl had initially
reached out to The Daily Beast in
August right after they had launched an impromptu protest against RT and Putin’s
homophobic repression. Wahl had felt morally compromised by working for the
network and she told the “Beast” about her feelings at that time, but she wasn’t yet prepared to quit.
It would be
nice if Fox’s Megan Kelly, did something like that of Ms. Wahl. Maybe Ms. Kelly would also understand, as Ms.
Wahl did, that spreading propaganda is a bad way to be as a “real” news person. If the RT anchor can say on the air "I cannot be part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Vladimir Putin.", she may
never work for RT again, but she is saying that she believes in "disseminating the truth".
So for Ms.
Wahl, I guess that leaves out Fox as
a future reporting job prospect.
