A POSITIVE STORY OF AMERICA, FOR AFTER THE 2020 ELECTION

 

                         …To make the story start out right, fist we must all VOTE

 

This is the way things might occur, after November 3^rd, 2020

 

A bunch of reporters got together at TIME Magazine and decided to write what they hope will happen in the up-coming election, and beyond.  They went much further than the election, and they tell us what they think the winner will do and how the economy will react and what the government will do under the presidential choice for 2020.  In addition, they forecast beyond 2020 and what will happen with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is an interesting enough story that I will condense along with their forecasts in this article.  It is also somewhat as what I hope occurs, and I do agree with some, but not all, of what they forecast, such as some of what will happen in the US in 2021 and beyond

So here’s the synopsis of what TIME’s reporters hope will happen on, and after November 3^rd.  Just remember, this is really their “wish list” for the future beyond the 2020 election.

So, here we go…..

The early part of their article says that the US will begin to change its approach to the pandemic and everything else from the past 4 years.  This is done by electing Joe Biden to replace Donald Trump.   They are also forecasting in the article that the Democrats will hold the majority in both Houses of Congress and Biden will be inaugurated as expected on January 21.  (Let’s hope that part of their story becomes true.)

They expect that Biden will then enlist the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), this is the central research and development organization for the US Department of Defense as one organization to help with the nation’s future investment strategies.  They also expect the European governments will be eager to work with the US Government and to get back to the former, solid relationship that the US has always had with Europe.

Of course, COVID-19 will still be rampant   The US and the world will finally be using the same collective health intelligence and they will put public values at the center of the world’s health innovations.  Bold conditions would then be placed by the W.H.O. and the CDC.  This will insure that the nation’s governance of the intellectual properties will prevent the drug companies from abusing the products intel properties, the pricing and the COVID-19 treatments and vaccines to ensure that they will be affordable and universally accessible.

As a result, the drug companies would also no longer be able to charge whatever they wish for all drugs and vaccines.  These lower prices will extend beyond COVID-19 therapies impacting the pricing of a large range of drugs and therapies world-wide.

They forecast that by February 2021, the FDA will approve the most promising COVID-19 vaccine for manufacture at multiple facilities in the US.  When the vaccine is ready, they will work with the W.H.O. and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for developing a world-wide distribution plan.

Unfortunately, by June 2021, the global economy will still be depressed.  The US, Europe and South America will still be debating what to do for the world’s many stimulus package options that will be needed.  There will also be major waves of protests by the taxpayers in the US, Brazil, Germany, Canada and elsewhere calling for sharing the rewards with the public, in exchange for any bailing out of the major corporations.

Under Biden, the US will take those demands seriously and will attach strong conditions to the necessary wave of national corporate bailouts.  Every major corporation will be required that one seat on their Board of Directors will be for the corporation’s workers.  All corporation’s political spending must also be approved by the company’s shareholders.  The CEO’s will have to certify annually that the companies are complying with all the rules.

Companies that are serious contributors to any pollution of the earth will either be working to remove their product form polluting, or they will be allowed to fail.  As an example, those unprofitable companies in the shale oil business will be allowed to fail, while the government will continue to help those in the solar and wind power industry, and the electric auto industry.

The reporters at TIME are also forecasting a serious drought in 2022 that will wipe-out the world’s crops of one-sixth of the world’s grain output.

The US desire to transition to a Green economy will require innovations on an enormous scale. There will be regional, national and supranational levels of work to develop the Green New Deal programs.  The concept of “Social Infrastructure” will become as important as “Physical Infrastructure”.  This will create an ambitious platform for public transportation, cycling paths, pedestrian pathways and a new way for stimulating healthy living.

As an example, the mayor of LA will have a bike and pedestrian path added to the 405 Highway.  (This is just one of those areas I don’t agree with TIME.)

The US Government will rise to the role of an “entrepreneurial state”, and will become an investor of the first resort to co-create value within the public sector and civil society.   Just as did the Apollo program, working in the US Government rather than at Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon or Goldman-Sachs, will become the most desirable and competitive.  In fact, a new college curriculum will be developed for those that want to become civil servants.

The COVID-19 pandemic will convince the world that we cannot go back to “business as usual”.

The world will have to embrace a “new normal” that insures public collaborations that are driven by public interest, not just profit.

The most valuable citizens will be those that work in health and social care, education, public transport, and even the supermarkets, and delivery services.  Those are areas that hold our society together, and that strengthen our civic infrastructure.  They will then be there for any crisis to come.

In their ending of the story, the COVID-19 took far too much from us in lives lost, and livelihoods shattered.  To secure a better future, this is this team of reporters way of obviously not describing what is reality, because this is just a wishful story that they hope does occur.

But it is truly how this group would like to see what the future could offer for both the US and the world.

I guess, all we can hope for at this time is that as much as possible of what they are hoping happens, does happen.

It is a good story that is worth hoping for, no matter how much of it is actually possible.

The real reality, is that first, we must get rid of Donald J. Trump.
