THE PARALLEL BETWEEN WATERGATE AND THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN

Will some Trump advisers eventually have to spend some jail time?

 

With all that’s going on at the White House and with those that have had bizarre political business with our president, it continues to remind me of the Watergate movie, “All the President’s Men”.

 

With that in mind, I decided to dig out my old DVD of the movie and watched it for probably the 7th or 8th times.

 

It is uncanny that, eventually, back then the mainstream media used their investigative reporting for going after the truth behind the Watergate break-in and the Nixon White House.  No matter how often the key people in the Nixon White House denied their guilt, between the New York Times, the Washington Post and other major newspapers and TV networks, they continually were able to show those many denials being false.  When it was all over, the follow individuals ended up either resigning or going to jail.

 

The final toll included:

 

·       One presidential resignation

·       One vice-presidential resignation – (although Spiro Agnew’s crimes were unrelated to Watergate)

·       40 government officials indicted or jailed

·       H.R. Haldeman and John Erlichman (White House staff), resigned and subsequently jailed

·       John Dean (White House legal counsel), sacked and subsequently jailed

·       John Mitchell, Attorney-General and Chairman of the Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP), jailed

·       Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy (ex-White House staff), planned the Watergate break-in, both jailed

·       Charles Colson, special counsel to the President, jailed

·       James McCord (Security Director of CREEP), jailed

 

Now, when we look at what’s going on in the Trump White House, doesn’t it seem interesting that even though from the president on down, the denials from the campaign having anything to do with the Russians, but the real info is seeming to show the opposite.

 

First, one must ask “Why did the Trump campaign go after a campaign manager like Paul Manafort.  A man that has been connected to the Russians or to the Ukraines for decades.  Why is it that former advisors such a Michael Flynn, Jeff Sessions, and even his own son-in-law, Jared Kushner, either lied about former meetings with Russians, or they failed to list their associations with certain foreign diplomats.  And what’s with this “bromance” between Trump and Vladimir Putin where Trump refuses to ever criticize the Russian leader?  It’s all very curious.

 

Then there’s what would be called the illegal meeting between Russian individuals such as the Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskava that had said they had “dirt on Hillary Clinton”.  And key individuals such as Trump’s son Don Jr,, Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner.  For a foreign country to offer info on a political candidate, that is against the law to pursue that info, but the Trump campaign officials just didn’t seem to care.

 

Isn’t it interesting that if you had meant with a key Russian diplomat, wouldn’t you probably have taken notes and you would for sure remember that meeting, right?  But our Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who first denied meeting any Russians, now he says they met, but doesn’t remember what was discussed….?

As the Robert Mueller investigation team continues to dig into the basics of possible Russian collusion, we now hear more and more about the connections between Trump advisers such as Carter Page, George Papadopoulos and their former offers to the Trump campaign to connect it to the Russians.

 

In addition, as we look deeper into the backgrounds  of Rex Tillerson, Anthony Scaramuccu, Rick Gates, Roger Stone, Michael Cohen, Nigil Farage, Erik Prince, and of course, the infamous Christopher Steele Dossier, that was put together by a former British intelligence officer, we continue to see associations that were either previously denied or conveniently “forgotten”.

 

It would not surprise me if after all is said and done, we will eventually see another major movie with big name stars doing a compilation movie on what went on between the Trump’s and the Russians.

 

Maybe the movie will be called:  “All the President’s Idiots”.
