IS THE “DON” IN DONALD TRUMP, LIKE A MAFIA “DON”?
…Donald
Trump's face could replace Marlon Brando's
Loyalty to Trump is the “family’s”
most important aspect.
While recently
recuperating from surgery, I took the time at home to watch the three classic Godfather movies, all in a row.
I’m not sure why I did that. I had seen the movies when they had first hit the
screen, and it took me back when I realized that the original movie with Marlon
Brando was from back in 1972.
As
it was back in the big movie days, the movies were beautifully produced and
directed. The detail as to the period
scenes with the appropriate automobiles, fashions, and trains from the past, and
of course the language used at the time.
But
what really hit me about the theme of the movies was how the Sicilian mafia
families were so in-line with our current First
Family. The loyalty to the “family” was then, and is today the
highest and most important quality of all the relationships. That was back then, and is the same at the White House today. And once that loyalty is shattered, it’s time
to toss the former member out with the other garbage. Mafia or White House, it's all the same.
The bizarre and unqualified individual that
we currently have in the White House
is very similar in some ways when compared to the mafia movie’s head of the family, Don Vito Corleone.
As with the Don, the current White House “Don” demands
loyalty to him above all else.
Unfortunately, the Corleone leaders were apparently much more
intelligent, capable and at least within their family, were more honest with
each other.
Also, as with the mafia families, the actual White House family members are the
groups most important individuals and they must be protected above all else.
When you consider the current president, his
blood-connected and married family members are his most important
advisers. If an appointed, non-direct
family adviser doesn’t make the grade, he or she is relegated to the large waste
pile. If you don’t believe that, just
ask the former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, former Chief of Staff,
Reince Priebus, former Secretary of HHS, Tom Price, and former Press Secretary,
Sean Spicer.
In the latest
move of the special investigation into Russian collusion, Robert Mueller has
already gotten a Trump adviser, George Papadopoulos, to admit to charges that
he lied to the FBI. In a 2016 video, President Trump had praised
Papadopoulos as an “excellent guy,”
referencing his work as an “energy
and oil consultant.”
But as it
would be in a classic mafia family, because he had to admit guilt to the FBI,
Trump is now attempting to minimize Papadopoulos’ campaign role despite
having once praised him.
As the investigation
continues, as it obviously will, the president, and a number of his close
advisers must be having some tough nights getting some good sleep. This is obvious by the early morning Tweet
storms from the White House where
Trump is doing all he can to offer “shiny
objects” for diverting the mainstream media’s attention.
But Mr.
Mueller is obviously much smarter than our lying president, and he is highly
tenacious in his methodical approach to his classic FBI Investigation. It is very interesting to watch the president
twist in the wind as little by little, the investigation continues to uncover
the illegal efforts that the Trump campaign members attempted in their drive to
bury Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.
We must
remember that the original novel of the Godfather was a fictional novel by Mario Puzo. But as reality is more amazing than fiction,
the novel later became known as a kind of biography of the real American mafia
families. The research that Mr. Puzo did
for the book was actually quite easy to assemble as it was already being played
out in the real world.
The
basis of the fictional Corleone family could have been like one of many real Italian
families that came to the United states, past the Statue of Liberty and through
Ellis Island in the early 1900’s. In the
novel and in the movie, there were five fictional mafia families. In real life in the US, there were the
following five, real Italian mafia families: the Genovese family, Gambino family, Lucchese family, Colombo family,
Bonanno family.
No, the
Trump’s are not Italian. But their
thought processes and their attitudes are pretty much the same.
Here we have a
president that will lie to all Americans at every chance he gets. But as there is within the mafia families,
there is no one in this family, or in his administration, that will call him
out on what he has said or done, regardless of whether what he has said is
correct.
This may be
fine for a close-knit Italian mafia family, but the American public deserve
better than this.
The story is that the Italian
mafia families still operate today as they did in the past. If the family’s Godfather says it, it is
the law….. got it?
But when the
president tells a lie, doesn’t someone at some point have to correct him?
Let’s hope
that at some point the current FBI investigation and its results will put an
end to our current mafia type family government administration.
