TRUMP’S FIRST 70 DAYS ARE A TOTAL DISASTER
…Sean Spicer, the man that every
day has to explain a mentally challenged president
Trump’s Tweet didn’t meant that
Trump wanted Flynn to be given immunity.
The president
of the United States, Donald J. Trump, tweeted last week that his former fired
national security adviser, Michael Flynn, should ask for immunity to testify to
congressional investigators.
But what I
just offered was round one of “March & April Madness” in Washington
DC. I don’t think that Trump’s Tweet
actually meant that Trump thinks Flynn should be given that immunity.
When the Press
Secretary, Sean Spicer got drawn into that discussion during his daily press
exchange in the White House, Spicer
sent that item right back at the White
House Press Corps.
It all started
with an amazing bizarre exchange between Spicer and the reporter, Major Garrett, from CBS NEWS.
Garrett
pressed Spicer on the question on Trump’s Tweet, given that the White House often complains about
Trump's tweets being misinterpreted and are not allowed to “speak for themselves.”
And
technically, Trump didn't say Flynn should get immunity. He only tweeted that Flynn should ask for it.
So it was good that Garrett asked for specificity.
But he got
squat from Spicer. Instead, Spicer merely said the White House wanted for Flynn to do what
it takes to allow him to testify.
Here's the
exchange, in bits and pieces:
GARRETT: “When the president says Mike
Flynn should get immunity, is he suggesting to Congress that it grant
immunity?”
SPICER: “I think Mike Flynn and his legal
counsel should do what's appropriate for Mike Flynn.”
Deflection No. 1:
GARRETT: “Right, but they cannot obtain
immunity; it must be granted. Is the president recommending — either to the FBI
or to Congress — that it grant immunity? Because that's the only way it can
happen.”
SPICER: “I understand that. But again, he
didn't say, 'Congress should grant.' “
The Question is: So he doesn't
think it should be granted?
GARRETT: “That's why I'm asking. What does
he mean by that?”
SPICER: “What he means is he supports
Mike Flynn's attempts to go up to Congress and to be very clear with everything
they ask and everything that they want.”
Deflection No. 2 & 3:
GARRETT: “Right. But he could have just
said, 'Testify.' He said he should get immunity. … For the president to even
lightly indicate that he is in favor of that, it seems to me, that is a
significant development. And I'm trying to find out if that's what the
president was trying to accomplish.”
SPICER: “And I'm trying to answer the
question, which is that I think what the — not that I think, I've talked to the
president … and the president's very clear that he wants Mike Flynn to go
and be completely open and transparent with the committee. And whatever it
takes to do that, he's supportive of.”
But as usual with Spicer, that didn't really
answer Garrett’s question.
…Mike Flynn, the man that said, "If
you ask for immunity, you must be guilty!"
The reality is
that Flynn, a former top adviser who may have broken two laws: one in his
discussion on sanctions with the Russian ambassador, and another by failing to
disclose his work for the government of Turkey, both could be a real
liability. And by his publicly asking for immunity,
instead of privately asking, this could be a ploy for Flynn trying to get
congressional immunity without having to give up a big fish, like the President
of the United States. If Flynn could get
blanket immunity, that would prevent any prosecution of Flynn regardless of how
treasonous his former actions might have been.
If a guy in
his position cuts a deal to testify, unencumbered by incriminating himself, it
stands to reason that he might be offering something pretty juicy in return.
That's why the president's tweet Friday morning seemed so odd.
But you must
remember we are talking about a tweet from a narcissistic, pathological liar
with a God complex. This is a person
whose tweets are meant to be taken seriously, but usually, not taken literally.
And the Trump
hole just gets deeper and deeper………there’s never been such a disastrous first 70
days of a president’s first 100 days. (Yes, it’s only been 70+ days!)
