TRUMP MAKES MAJOR STATEMENT: “I WILL NO LONGER EAT ANY OREO COOKIES!”
…The label of a Trump product NOT
manufactured in the USA.
Trump University actually
encouraged its students to outsource.
Based on
Trump’s statements about US companies shipping their jobs out of the United
States, Trump has since made a major concession by vowing not to eat Oreo
cookies. This was after Nabisco moved some US factory jobs to Mexico. Wow, what a way to attack a company the size
of Nabisco as a businessman and a presidential candidate.
Now, Hillary
already has a couple of ads against Trump’s out-sourcing his Trump name-only
items to companies outside the US.
But of course
his answer when asked why he should be trusted since he already out-sources his
own products, Trump answers with: “Because
nobody knows the system better than me. … I’m a businessman. These are laws.
These are regulations. These are rules. We’re allowed to do it. … I’m the one
that knows how to change it.”
So, just
because the law says he can do it, today, that makes it OK. And Trump sounds like if he were president,
he would just act like a dictator and that he would have the power to just declare that the
law had to change, just because he said so.
Trump has been
outsourcing his products for years.
There are even examples from his defunct Trump University that is currently under investigation in several
states for fraud. But in Trump’s
former “university classes”, they
encouraged his students to pursue outsourcing whenever possible. According to a 2005 Trump University posting: ““Outsourcing
Creates Jobs in the Long Run.” Trump
also wrote this, saying that sending your work outside of your company “is not always a terrible thing.”
In the same
post, Trump wrote: “I know that doesn’t
make it any easier for people whose jobs have been outsourced overseas. But if a company’s only means of survival is
by farming jobs outside its walls, then sometimes it’s a necessary step."
The private
company ImportGenius has searched for
sources through publicly available info for shipments at US ports from 2007
through 2016 to date. The data shows
that many products in the Donald J. Trump
Collection were imported from China, Bangladesh, Honduras and Vietnam. The Trump Collection includes ties, suits,
dress shirts, eyeglasses and other accessories.
Trump eyeglasses are made in China while the cufflinks and other
accessories do not even list their source of manufacturing.
PolitiFact in Virginia had already found Trump sport coats made in India and they
have pointed to import data from 2007 that showed that Trump men’s shirt
shipments were made from South Korea.
But it isn’t
all that simple for what Trump says and what Trump does.
Some of the
Trump suits on Amazon.com show that
they were imported, “Made in USA” or
both. But the group called BuzzFeed
ordered a suit that was listed as both “imported”
and “Made in USA”. When the suit arrived, it had a label showing
the suit was made in Indonesia.
(Is it any wonder why Trump continually
receives “4 Pinocchio’s” for all the
un-truths he spouts on a regular basis.)
One of the
worst items that has come from Trump
Collection items that were purchased to see where they were manufactured
was as shown in the photo above of the Trump suit that carries a “Made in Mexico” label.
But this item
might actually have not been manufactured in Mexico.
It is not
uncommon that a shirt or suit that has a label saying “Made in Mexico”, may actually have been manufactured in Bangladesh.
The item’s
description may say it was made in Mexico, but this may just be a reflection of
the different countries that a product sometimes passes through before it
is ultimately shipped into the United States.
The Trump Home group has a range of
items, including chandeliers, mirrors, bedding, table lamps, cabinets, sofas,
barstools, cocktail tables and more.
Trump expanded
the Trump Home brand internationally,
including in Turkey. A Trump Organization
news release shows it partnered with a global luxury furniture brand, Dorya International, to expand the Trump Home brand to a production
facility in Turkey. According to Furniture Today, components of the
Trump by Dorya furniture were made in Germany, particularly the brass and
stainless pieces
“Success by Trump,” a cologne in the Trump Fragrance line, is one of the few
Trump products manufactured in the United States. The Trump campaign’s “Make America Great Again” hats were
initially made outside the US, but they quickly made some changes and today
they are made at a Southern California factory and are labeled “Proudly Made in USA.” The Trump
Natural Spring Water that is served at Trump hotels, restaurants
and golf clubs, Trump water comes from New York or Vermont, and is bottled in
New York.
The Clinton
campaign has pointed to a trademark registration for the Trump Home brand that shows picture frames and other home products
that were made in India. The Trump Home by Rogaska tabletop
collection featured a crystal and china collection with a company based in
Slovenia.
But it still
doesn’t stop here.
Many hotel
amenities at Trump’s hotels were manufactured overseas. Trump Hotel pens were
made in China and Taiwan and are imported into the United States via South
Korea. Shampoo, body wash, moisturizers, shower caps, laundry bags, show bags,
pet collars, pet leashes and bath towels at Trump hotels are all listed as made
in China.’
The bottom
line is that Trump’s practice as a businessman is not consistent with his
on-going rhetoric against trade as a presidential nominee. There is more than enough factual evidence
against what Trump claims about his “Make
America Great Again” promise. If Trump brand customers took the same stance
against his products as he did against Nabisco and not eating Oreo’s, it is
clear they would be left with few Trump items to buy.
There is one
ironic issue about all the rhetoric regarding Trump’s imported products, and
some more proof regarding Trump’s children.
That being that, “The fruit
doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
Today, a Trump Winery is listed as being located in Charlottesville, Va. However, the winery is reported to be owned
by Trump’s son, Eric. The Trump Winery
website says its name is a registered trademark of Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing, LLC. But as you would expect, like father, like son, the winery
imports all of its Trump Winery glassware.
Nuff said.
