REPUBLICAN LEADER USES 9/11 ATTACK TO JUSTIFY HAVING NO GUN CONTROL

…Rep. Steve Scalise, who almost died from a mass gun attack

The GOP continues to push their anti-gun control approach

A Republican leader in the House, Steve Scalise (R-La) offered a stupid excuse for arguing against any gun control measures.  Instead of going after the ability for 18 year old teens to purchase a weapon of war, Scalise invoked the 9/11 attack.  He actually said: “Airplanes were used that day, as the weapon to kill thousands of people and to inflict terror on our country. But there wasn’t a conversation about banning airplanes,”

He then went on saying: “There was a conversation about connecting the dots. How can we try to figure out if there are signs we can see to stop the next attack from happening?”  He was basically saying something we always hear from those in the GOP like:  “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”

In other words, Scalise isn’t against the fact that the U.S. makes available to almost anyone, the easy ability for purchasing a weapon designed for war.  Easier than any other nation, and in a country that today, has 120 guns for every 100 people.  More guns by far, than in any other nation.

Scalise then said: “Thank God we have been able to stop other attacks on our homeland and there have been many attempts, but because we put the focus on connecting the dots, we were able to stop them before they happen. That’s the focus we need to have,” Scalise said, turning back to the GOP’s response to today’s gun violence.  (How could anyone focus on a young person in Texas that decided to attack an elementary school with an AR-15 Rifle?)

Of course, from the Republicans, the kind of things they want has nothing that would stop an enraged individual from acquiring and using an AR 15 rifle.  They instead want to boost funding to schools for on-campus police officers, mental health counselors and the hardening of school security.  Not one thing about keeping or slowing down a person from acquiring a gun and all the ammunition to kill any number of people.  In other words, like the 18year old that in Uvalde, Texas fatally shot 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school.

Instead of moving to restrict firearms, Scalise argued that such measures are ineffective and violate Second Amendment rights which is so much B.S..  (The 2nd Amendment was written well before the guns that were designed for modern war.)

The House GOP is formally having its members vote against two gun measures in the House this week, brought by Democrats in response to both the mass shootings in Uvalde and the one at a Buffalo, N.Y., grocery store.

One bill seeks to nationalize “red flag” laws, which would authorize courts to order the removal of firearms from individuals believed to be a threat to themselves and others. The other package includes measures that raise the minimum age for buying a semi-automatic weapon from 18 to 21.  It also bans civilians from having high-capacity magazines of more than 15 rounds and codifies a ban on bump stocks.

But the Republicans are against any bills that are not supported by the NRA.  An association that is in the pocket of all the U.S. gun manufacturers.  The NRA isn’t even against the gun kits that anyone of any age can buy for them to build all the “Ghost Guns” they want.  (A “Ghost Gun” is a gun you can buy as a kit for assembling your own gun.  A gun that does not have a serial number and is perfect for someone that wants to use it for illegal purposes.)

Let’s face it, as far as the GOP considers, everyone should be able to carry any gun they want, anywhere they want, and to have the largest cartridge of ammunition for that gun.
