AT SOME POINT, TRUMP HAS TO GIVE OUT SOME POLICY DETAILS
…The way most of us see “The
Donald”
Why don’t the experts require more
specifics from Trump about, “Making America Great Again?
As much as I
usually appreciate watching Morning Joe, I was very disappointed
in their MSNBC “Town Hall with Donald Trump”.
Neither Joe
Scarborough nor Mika Brzezinski actually “grilled”
Mr. Trump about anything. They also
didn’t follow-up on their own questions, even when Trump slid past questions
and went into his “I’m going to make
America so great again.” stump recital.
And if you
listened to Trump at the end of the Town Hall, you would have thought they had
put him through the wringer. His comment
was, “It’s not easy. It’s a lot of work. I mean, I’m here. I could
be someplace else, to be honest with you. Okay, I’m being grilled by the two of
you; I could be someplace else.”
When Joe and
Mika asked “What do you replace Obamacare
with?” Out came the standard, “It will be a lot better and cheaper,” but as
usual, he gave out no details. When
asked about his on-going, “Medically, we
need to take care of everyone,” stump statement, he would just say that
they [his presidential administration] would come up with a way to keep the
poor from dying in the streets. But once
again, no details on a possible plan.
When asked
about his statement that he had been against going into Iraq even before the
invasion, he just said that since he wasn’t an elected politician back then,
his ant-invasion comments were never published.
(And now there have been the recordings of him agreeing with the invasion.) Someday, someone is going to have to stick with interviewing him on his allegedly
early anti-Iraq war claims. Neither Joe
Scarborough nor the Meet the Press
host, Chuck Todd, nor any Fact-Checkers have been able to find evidence of
Trump saying that the Iraq war was a bad idea before the March 2003
invasion. At some point, some news
anchor is going to have to refuse to continue going on to other subjects. That is until
Trump can name some respected individuals that he had told of his early
anti-Iraq-invasion opposition. Until
then, it’s just another one of Trump’s imaginations.
Now, as some
of you may know, I have been a long-time fan of the Washington Post Op-Ed
writer, Dana Milbank. He and I are
usually on the same page when it comes to the latest political news. However, in one single paragraph, Dana
Milbank has now rightfully capsulized and summarized Trump’s shameful record of
racism, bigotry and rampant disrespect.
Here is Mr.
Milbank’s summary:
Trump led the “birther” movement challenging
President Obama’s standing as a natural-born American; used various vulgar
expressions to refer to women; spoke of Mexico sending rapists and other
criminals across the border; called for rounding up and deporting 11 million
illegal immigrants; had high-profile spats with prominent Latino journalists
and news outlets; mocked Asian accents; let stand a charge made in his presence
that Obama is a Muslim and that Muslims are a “problem” in America; embraced
the notion of forcing Muslims to register in a database; falsely claimed
thousands of Muslims celebrated the 9/11 attacks in New Jersey; tweeted bogus
statistics asserting that most killings of whites are done by blacks; approved
of the roughing up of a black demonstrator at one of his events; and publicly
mocked the movements of New York Times (and former Washington Post) journalist
Serge Kovaleski, who has a chronic condition limiting mobility.
All of these
comments are true and verified, and this is all about the same man that is
currently ahead in the polls in most of the Southern states. It will be highly embarrassing if the man
that is described in the above paragraph ends up sitting in the Oval Office.
At the end of
the MSNBC Town Hall, an audience
member did ask Trump a question about civility: “My question is where do you think the line is between boldness and
honesty, and disrespect and rudeness?”
As usual, Trump just changed the subject and made some vague statement
about how he handles the outbursts of people at his rallies. So, more business as usual. But instead of following up and getting him
to actually answer the question, Joe Scarborough then jumped in and asked Trump
if as president, he’d have any allies on Capitol Hill. So, once again the questioner was giving
total legitimacy to the billionaire bigot seated in the middle of the Town Hall.
It was all
pretty disappointing.
