MOST REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ARE CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS
…South Carolina Senator Lindsay
Graham: the only GOP candidate that believes in climate change.
The Republicans will believe their
auto mechanic, but no way will they believe a PhD climate change scientist.
It has been
shown that 97% of certified climate
scientists agree that human activity has been responsible for the climate
change the world is experiencing. It
doesn’t take the proverbial “Rocket
Scientist” to realize that when you pump that much carbon into the air from
burning fossil fuels, at some point, something has to give.
It has been
shown by basic medical science that cigarette smoking causes cancer, that eating
fattening foods causes obesity and that taking certain drugs, can cause an
addiction. So, why do the Republicans
continue to deny climate change by saying “I’m
not a scientist, so I can’t say that climate change was caused by humans.”
These
Republicans are wearing climate change blinders. They will believe their own doctors, they will believe their
own auto mechanics and their personal computer techies, but God forbid that
they should believe the 97% of the
scientists that say climate change is real and humans are partially or
completely to blame.
All but one of
the Republican presidential contenders (That
one being Senator Lindsay Graham.) they either doubt the scientific
consensus on climate change or they oppose any attempts to do anything about
it. This issue alone promises to be one of the major ideological divides facing
voters next year.
Of the other GOP candidates, Ohio Gov. John Kasich,
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former New York Gov. George Pataki and the
ex-CEO of H-P, Carly Fiorina, they
have previously at least acknowledged the scientific consensus on climate
change. But with the election now on its
way, they continue to hem and haw about what, if any, action should be taken.
Is this
stubborn attitude by the GOP because of all the money donated to the party by those corporations that have
some connections to big oil? If yes,
it’s just one more example of why it’s important to get big money out of
politics. But as long as the American
voters will continue to put the Republicans in power, especially in the House of Representatives that controls
the nation’s purse strings, you can
kiss that option good-bye for years.
Senator Ted
Cruz said this week that he promised to do only two things as a Texas
Senator: “To do the things I said I would do when elected, and to tell the truth.” Well, he should resign right now as he makes
a serious habit of not telling the truth.
Just this week
Cruz said Planned Parenthood was
doing illegal things with fetal tissues and he flat-out denies that climate
change is taking place, as he accused the climate scientists of “cooking the books”. Needless to say, he never showed any proof
against Planned Parenthood and never
offered any proof of “books that are
being cooked”. He also cherry-picked
one statement from some data that denies that last year was the hottest year
ever recorded.
As with other climate-change deniers, Cruz also ignores the fact that
nine of the 10 hottest years on record have occurred since the turn of the
century.
In a previous
article, I referred to the Koch Brothers financed: Freedom Partners organization that is attempting to take over the
RNC.
At the recent Freedom Partners Forum, Senator Marco
Rubio, Senator Ted Cruz and former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, all three in
their speeches basically pooh-poohed any idea that humans caused climate
change. In fact, Jeb Bush actually
called the tough new curbs on carbon emissions from power plants as ““unconstitutional and they will cost American
jobs”.
As expected,
Jeb offered nothing to show why the regulations were “unconstitutional” or “what
lost jobs” he was referring to. In
fact, as for Bush’s claim of unconstitutionality, the US Supreme Court ruled
last year that the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has the
authority under the Clean Air Act to
regulate carbon emissions by power plants, factories and other polluting
facilities. That 7-2 decision was written by the conservative Justice, Antonin
Scalia.
Apparently, at
least the conservative justices on the highest court do believe that it’s important, long-term, to get a handle on the
concentration of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere.
Both Hillary
Clinton and Bernie Sanders are promising even tougher action against climate
change than President Obama has taken.
Just one more
reason that proves why elections matter.
