YES, RACE, IS STILL A MAJOR POLITICAL ISSUE
…US Attorney General, Eric Holder
Are the Republicans in the US
Congress Racists? You be the judge.
For those of
us that grew up watching the race riots that occurred in Little Rock, and
Selma, and after Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated, most of us
figured that the bad attitudes between the races were starting to change for
the better. Oh, we knew the race issues
weren’t going away, but at least, those of us out here on the West Coast, we
thought things would be improving.
Well, they
have, and they have not. Yes, in some
ways it’s better, such as no more rest rooms or lunch counters in the South
being divided between the whites and the blacks, no more “blacks to the back of the bus” issues, but in some ways things are
going back to dividing the races. Plus
today, it’s now dividing the poor from the wealthy, or the conservatives from
the progressives.
First, we now have
the new voter ID laws and fewer voting hours in conservative states that, “were supposed keep voter fraud away”. But with most states having a voter fraud
issue of 0.00001% of their state’s voters, that bogus issue is now referred to
as the new “Mr. James Crow the 3rd “ laws, or just an updated
version of the Southern “Poll Taxes”. These laws will mostly keep the minorities,
the young, elderly, disabled and veterans away from the polls. And as a group, these groups tend to vote Democratic. Isn’t it interesting that these new laws are
only being introduced in states controlled by Republican Governors and GOP run state congresses….?
But there are also
some other crazy things going on regarding race in the South, especially in the
Deep South, and it’s becoming harder and harder to understand.
We now have the
crazy, liberal, Alabama Democratic state Representative, Mr. Alvin Holmes, who just happens to be black, and he said some off-the-wall racial comments such as
it’s fine by him if a man wanted to marry a mule...? He also said that, “white people are only pro-life until their daughter gets pregnant by a
black man”. In another situation,
Mr. Holmes offered $100,000 to anyone who could show him that, “a bunch of whites” had adopted black
babies in Alabama. He had previously
also said on a local radio program that the, “White people of Alabama would never let him, a black man, adopt a white
baby”.
His $100,00
offer produced hundreds of mixed-race family photos posted to a Facebook page called, “Faces of Families”. These were families from Alabama and several
other southern states. A statehouse rally of mixed-race, adoptive families also ensued,
but Holmes has not been moved to retract any of his original statements.
In addition to
crazies like Mr. Holmes, for race issues to be showing there ugly heads even
more, just look at how our black president and Attorney General are being disrespected.
This racial disrespect
all started when the South Carolina
Representative, Joe Wilson, yelled “You
lie!” at President Obama during his speech at a Joint Session of Congress in 2009.
Wilson later apologized for the outburst. However, since that time, the president has
been falsely called a liar many times, and mostly by southern politicians or
conservative talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.
This
disrespect for black politicians has gotten ridiculous such as in the video of
the white Representative Darrell Issa,
Chairman of the House Committee on
Oversight, cutting off the microphone of the Representative Elijah Cummings, the committee’s ranking senior
Democrat. This occurred during another bogus
hearing on the IRS scandal. Issa also
later apologized to the Democrat, but it was a private phone call apology, not
a public apology.
Let’s also not
forget how roughly 100 Democrats, including Minority
Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip
Steny Hoyer, poured out of the House
of Representatives in a symbolic protest against holding Attorney General Eric Holder in Contempt
of Congress. But the rest of the Republican
body proceeded without them. No other AJ
has ever been held in Contempt of Congress. But this was all because of another bogus and
failed attempt by Darrell Issa to try and pin a bad issue on the president’s
administration.
The president’s
administration that truly deserved to be disrespected was the previous
Republican administration. But fortunately,
the Democrats respected the office of the president and did not stoop to that
level.
Today,
Washington DC is home to a president and an attorney general who both happen to
be African Americans.
Speaking
recently at the 2014 convention of the National
Action Network, a nonprofit civil rights organization, the Attorney General Eric
Holder said that he and President Obama have faced “unwarranted, ugly and divisive adversity.” “What
attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?” Holder
said. Then he added, “What president has ever had to deal with
that kind of treatment?”
The answer is “none”.
Holder later
denied making any references to race, which he didn’t do. He was way too smart to say anything that
overt. But we all know race is what he
was talking about.
I guess the
good news is that at least, we are talking about it.
They say, the
best way to fix a problem is to first admit that you have a problem.
Well, the
progressives are admitting that race is still a big issue. But if you were watching Fox News for understanding that racial issues are a big problem, you would be
very disappointed. According to Fox,
they just hate the man in the White House. They falsely think he is not very smart and is a very bad and
incompetent president.
However, I
would bet everything I have, that when the final story is written, this
president will go down as one of the best in history. He stopped the nation from heading into financial
disaster, he stopped two foreign wars and he gave the American public its first
taste of affordable health care.
Just compare
this with what the previous Republican president brought to the party.
