REPUBLICAN REP. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE VIRTUALLY THREATENS A DEMOCRATIC REP.
…The
less-than-polite, Marjorie Taylor Greene
Republican
Greene seriously thinks “Black Lives Matter” is a “terrorist organization”
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene aggressively confronted Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, raising that Rep’s. security concerns. The Democrats should be concerned, as Taylor-Greens falsely accused Ocasio-Cortez of supporting “terrorists”, as one member of the House has already been forced to relocate her office, just due to Congresswoman Greene’s actions.
Where Greene gets her false information is unknown, but the terrorists that Greene accuses her of, is the almost mythical concept referred to as “Antifa” and the peaceful Black Lives Matter (BLM) protestors. Greene called both "groups terrorists”.
Republican Rep.Taylor Greene aggressively confronted the Democratic Rep. She falsely accused her and this led the New York congresswoman’s office to call on the House leadership to ensure that Congress remains “a safe, civil place for all Members and staff.”
Two Washington Post reporters witnessed Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) exit the House chamber ahead of Greene (R-Ga.), who shouted “Hey Alexandria” twice in an effort to get her attention. When Ocasio-Cortez did not stop walking, Greene picked up her pace and began shouting at her and asking why she supports Antifa, and BLM falsely labeling them both “terrorist groups.” Greene also shouted that Ocasio-Cortez was failing to defend her “radical socialist” which she is referring to her Green New Deal program, which is not “socialist”.
Ocasio-Cortez
refuses to publicly debate the freshman from Georgia because she knows it would
not be a proper debate with the Georgia Congresswoman.
“You don’t care about the American people,” Greene shouted. “Why do you support terrorists and Antifa?”
Ocasio-Cortez does not support even the concept of the extremist Antifa. While Antifa isn’t an organization, it is a political movement comprising of groups that are affiliated by their militant opposition to fascism and other forms of extreme right-wing ideology.
Due to Greene’s extremist views, the House Democrats voted on Feb. 4 to eject Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) from two committee assignments.
When Greene approached Ocasio-Cortez, who just kept walking and she did not stop to answer Greene’s yells. Ocasio-Cortez only turned around once, and she threw her hands in the air in an exasperated motion. The two following reporters were not close enough to hear what the New York congresswoman said, and her office declined to discuss her specific response.
“Representative Greene tried to begin an argument with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a “terrorist sympathizer.” Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said this in a statement: “We hope leadership and the Sergeant at Arms will take real steps to make Congress a safe, civil place for all Members and staff, especially as many offices are discussing reopening.
Before walking away, Greene said that the encounter was intended to hold Democrats accountable for their policy proposals.
“She’s a chicken, she doesn’t want to debate the Green New Deal,” she said to a small group of reporters and onlookers near the entrance to the chamber. “These members are cowards. They need to defend their legislation to the people. That’s pathetic.”
What’s pathetic are Greene’s attempts to get into face-to-face screaming arguments with any Democrats. The member of Congress that had to re-locate because of Greene was also due to Greene’s false accusations.
Greene has been a controversial figure throughout her 2020 election campaign, and her committee assignments were removed earlier because of her extremist statements. After she lost her committee assignments, she said, “She was now free to push the GOP further to the Right.”
Greene has made a number of incendiary and false statements in recent years, among them that Black people “are held slaves to the Democratic Party,” and that the Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) who are the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. According to Greene, they represented “an Islamic invasion into our government offices,” and that the Jewish mega-donor, George Soros, that he collaborated with the Nazis. All Greene false statements.
She has also expressed support for the radical ideology of QAnon, which is a sprawling set of false claims that have become an extremist ideology that has radicalized its followers. Some of QAnon believers participated in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and some have been arrested and charged with the insurrection.
If anyone is sympathetic to terrorists, it's Taylor Greene.
Greene’s behavior toward Ocasio-Cortez was similar to her effort to confront young gun-control activist David Hogg.
You may recall young Mr. Hog who was a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., High School. Hogg was accosted by Greene as he walked around the Capitol grounds amid a lobbying push in 2019 for new, stricter, gun laws. Greene shot cellphone video of Hogg’s lobbying.
Greene has also been an outspoken defender of former president Donald Trump and his false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen
This is not the first confrontation Greene has had with a Democratic member of Congress that has caused the Dems to raise safety concerns.
Earlier this year Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) accused Greene and her staff for accosting her in a tunnel beneath a House office building. This was after Bush asked Greene to wear a mask “out of concern for the health of my staff, other members of Congress, and their congressional staff.” Greene denied the allegation and accused Bush of “lying” and of leading a “terrorist mob,” just because Bush supported Black Lives Matter.
The incident prompted Ms. Bush to ask Democratic leadership if she could move her office away from Greene at a time when the Georgia congresswoman was already under heavy scrutiny for her rhetoric and behavior.
In February, Greene also got into a confrontation with the office of a neighboring congresswoman over transgender rights. After Rep. Marie Newman (D-Ill.) hung a transgender pride flag outside her office in honor of her transgender daughter. Newman was trying to push back against Greene’s opposition to legislation that would extend civil rights protections to the LGBTQ community. So in competition, Greene hung up a poster across the hall that read: “There are TWO genders. MALE & FEMALE. Trust the Science!”
“I thought we’d put up ours so [Newman] can look at it every time she opens her door,” she said in a video.
Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) called Greene’s poster “sickening, pathetic, unimaginably cruel.”
Greene has been a headache for Republican leaders at times, but they have not taken any punitive steps in response to her actions. They also decried Democrats voting to take away her committee assignments.
Even though Representative Greene has been causing problems, she says “she’s not backing down.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) spoke to Greene before she was removed from her committees. This was after the congressional Republicans started to complain about her attempts to delay routine floor actions. But as expected, neither those nor other of her actions have resulted in any punishment.
“Past comments from and endorsed by Marjorie Taylor Greene on school shootings, political violence, and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories do not represent the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference,” McCarthy said in a statement released during the debate over her committee assignments. “I made this clear to Marjorie when we met. I also made clear that as a member of Congress we have a responsibility to hold ourselves to a higher standard than how she presented herself as a private citizen. Her past comments now have much greater meaning. Marjorie recognized this in our conversation. I hold her to her word, as well as her actions going forward.”
Well, Ms. Greene has obviously ignored her leadership’s directions.
The
following morning, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) criticized Ms. Greene’s behavior.
“While I may not agree with @AOC on issues, I’ve never seen her [Greene] confront a colleague like this,” he wrote on Twitter. “The house was created to debate emotional issues professionally, and it seems some just want attention or they cannot handle their emotions.”
Greene responded by mocking the veteran [Kinzinger] of his war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Since you are short on understanding little Adam, I asked @AOC to debate me,” she wrote on Twitter. “In the chamber, to debate her destructive socialist policies. But Sandy [Alexandria] doesn’t know how to work with Republicans. Neither do you.”
Greene also mocked Ocasio-Cortez for raising safety concerns regarding the walking incident.
“@AOC ‘Ms. Defund The Police’ wants to call the police for security because she’s afraid of debating with me about her socialist agenda,” she wrote. “AOC is a fraud & a hypocrite. That’s fine Sandy. Since you lack the courage & intelligence to debate me, I’ll debate the person who really wrote it.” (Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t want to defund the police. She wants the police to spend their money for retraining the police.)
Greene continued to accuse Ocasio-Cortez, Omar and Tlaib of being terrorist sympathizers, calling them the “#JihadSquad.”
Since asking earlier this year to debate Ocasio-Cortez, Greene has confronted her one other time on the House floor, when she approached the New York congresswoman to try to schedule a date for a debate over the Green New Deal. This “deal” is only a set of environmental policies intended to combat climate change.
In a
video posted to social media, Greene criticized Ocasio-Cortez again for
not debating her.
“If she chickens out, then she shows who she really is: a scared little girl that is pretty stupid and doesn’t know anything about the economy or economics,” Greene said.
I don’t think anyone with a right mind would ever consider debating someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene would turn a debate into a situation that would require a sane person to just pick up their binder and walk out on the event.
