TRUMP REACHES A NEW LOW: AND WE HAD THOUGHT HE WAS THERE ALREADY!

When you have supporters that never question their leaders, you know that small “d” democracy is in serious trouble.

Every time we think the president has finally hit rock bottom, he then makes a move to drop down one more level.

This time it came at one of his campaign rallies in South Carolina.

Here is what he said: “Every single Democrat in the U.S. Senate has signed up for the open borders – and it’s a bill. And it’s called The Open Borders Bill. What’s going on? And it’s written by – guess who – Dianne Feinstein.”

This is a flat-out lie. Anyone can take a look at the www.congress.gov website, which lists every bill submitted. Nothing is there called The Open Borders Bill.

This is just one more 100% Trump lie.  Not a stretch, not a falsehood, not a mis-statement.  Just pure Trump B.S.!

There is no such bill, by that name, or by any other name. The only bill about immigration that Feinstein sponsors is one to force Trump to stop separating families at the border. Once again we are reminded that Trump continues to lie with a shamelessness that we have never seen before.  The lies come about everything, on every day.  And his followers don’t care a bit, just like they didn’t care that Brett Kavanaugh lied under oath repeatedly during his testimony. 

No US President, being in the White House for 8 years, has lied as much as Donald Trump has in his only 2 years in office.

Per Trump: “The Democrats want open borders. They want anybody, including MS-13 gang members, pouring into the country.”  This was President Trump, speaking at his campaign rally in South Carolina

No, Democrats do not want "Open Borders’ or MS-13 gang members".

President Trump has falsely claimed this at least two dozen times since taking office, that Democrats want to open America's borders.  But the legislation shows that Democrats support border security measures, but not the “BORDER WALL” Trump wants to build.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD PASS THE STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL, KNOWN AS GOODLATTE II, IN THEIR AFTERNOON VOTE TODAY, EVEN THOUGH THE DEMS WON’T LET IT PASS IN THE SENATE.  PASSAGE WILL SHOW THAT WE WANT STRONG BORDERS & SECURITY WHILE THE DEMS WANT OPEN BORDERS = CRIME. WIN!

Another Trump lie.

Democrats have argued that building a wall on the southwestern border is ineffective and a waste of resources.  They also reject hard-line proposals to limit legal immigration.  But Mr. Trump is grossly exaggerating Democrats’ positions when he conflates their opposition to his signature campaign promise.  And there is no evidence that the Democrats “want just anybody, including MS-13, to enter the United States”.

While criticizing Mr. Trump’s immigration policies, the Democratic National Committee has committed to improving border security.

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic leaders, continually rebut the president’s charges.  In addition, their aides have cited several examples of legislation that are supported by Democrats and would have provided border security funding.

Chuck Schumer has tweeted:

“Open borders, @realDonaldTrump? The bipartisan immigration bill I authored had $40 billion for border security and would have been far more effective than The Wall.”

Responding last week to Mr. Trump’s earlier claims, Ms. Pelosi said, “No, we do care about the border.”

She continued: “We care about protecting our country, but we don’t think we need to protect the border by putting children in cages.  We want to be smart and strong, not reckless, rash and ruthless in this case.”

Thirty Democrats in the House have sponsored a bipartisan immigration bill this year that give the young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers a pathway to citizenship.  It also enhances border technology used to monitor the border, and provides $110 million in grants annually for collaboration between local law enforcement and Border Patrol agents.

All 193 Democrats in the House and 23 moderate Republicans have signed a “discharge” petition to force a vote on that bill and other immigration proposals.

In the Senate, all but one Democrat voted for similar immigration legislation sponsored by the late Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican, and Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat of Delaware.

All but three Democrats voted for yet another bipartisan proposal to provide a pathway to citizenship to Dreamers, and authorize $25 billion to build barriers and hire personnel at the border over the next decade. It would also prohibit green-card holders from sponsoring adult children.

But to impress her audience of one in the White House, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trump’s press secretary, repeated the following false assertion and argued that Democrats have “made it very clear that they don’t want to work with the president, that they don’t want to fix our immigration system,” here she is referring to the political impasse over "real immigration reform".

The vast majority of Senate Democrats, and 14 Republicans, voted down a White House backed Senate proposal that would enable the Department of Homeland Security to make more arrests and deportations, limit family-based immigration, and eliminate the diversity visa lottery. House Democrats have also suggested opposition to a new measure that will also limit legal immigration.

Democrats consistently supported border security measures long before Mr. Trump took office.

In 2013, every single Democrat in the Senate voted for the so-called Gang of Eight immigration overhaul bill that would have provided about $40 billion for border enforcement, including deploying thousands more agents and building 700 miles of fencing. (The House leader made sure that the House would never vote on the bill.)

In 2006, 26 Senate Democrats voted to build 700 miles of walls and fences on the southwestern border.   Senator Schumer was among the Democrats who supported that proposal, a fact that even Trump has repeatedly acknowledged as recently as last week.

And Trump’s base just gobbles up any lie that is offered by the president without ever looking into whether what he is espousing is the truth.

When you have supporters that support a liar who is unqualified to be the head of the free world, you know we’re in it up to our nose.
