TRUMP DECLARES: DEVELOPING AFRICAN COUNTRIES ARE “S---HOLE” COUNTRIES!
…Many citizens of Africa sent
Trump tweets of pictures of their beautiful countries
United Nations spokesman described
Trump’s remarks as totally “racist.”
As is usual from the Trump White House,
even though more than one individual had overheard the president’s comments
about developing African nations and Haiti as “shithole” countries, Trump is of course, falsely denying that he
called these countries such a disgusting name.
This comment
was made by Trump in the context of the debate about whether to take in people
from said, “s---hole countries”.
Multiple TV
journalists have declared that Trump has revealed himself as a “true racist”. It’s now safe to say this
on prime-time television, but those of us that have been following Trump for
years already knew Trump was a racist.
But what this
blaring comment from the president does now is shatter the endless B.S. that Trump
and his supporters have employed to obscure a basic truth: “That the nationalism that is at the core of
Trumpism is heavily driven by a reactionary backlash to the current ethnic and
racial mix of the US population. It is
pure white nationalism, despite all the “what-me-a-racist?” protestation to the
contrary.”
Trump’s
comments have basically stopped the negotiations underway over the deal to
protect the “Dreamers.” It can no longer be denied that Trump opposes
the deal because it does not do enough to roll back ongoing racial and
demographic trends
Here’s where
we are and where Trump is taking us. And
remember, America already is a nation of immigrants of all colors.
Here are the
particulars of the immigration talks and Trump’s response to them.
In the White House, a bipartisan group of
senators had presented an agreement that would grant protected status to the Dreamers who were brought here illegally
as children. The agreement would pump
more money into border security, and it would tweak family-based immigration
and end the “Diversity Visa Lottery
Program.” This program distributes visas to countries with historically low
immigration rates, many of these countries are in Africa and Central Asia,
channeling those visas to some US residents with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from countries like El
Salvador, Nicaragua and Haiti. This is
the program that Trump is rolling back.
Trump
reacted to a discussion of that last component of the deal by saying
“Why are we having all these people from
shithole countries come here?” This was before suggesting that the United
States should instead allow in more people from countries like Norway, you
know, more white people.
But what Trump
is not aware of is that first of all, the people of Norway have no desire to
migrate to the US. In Norway, they are
overall wealthier than average Americans, they have 100% health care coverage,
they are generally much better educated due to their free college
education. In addition, based on a
national “Happiness Poll”, Norway is
the “Happiest nation in the world”.
Trump now
claims he only used “tough” language
about this agreement, but that is not what the other meeting attendees have
reported. His reported comments
seriously illuminate his real policy stance: Trump is rejecting the deal
because it lets in too many people from what he thinks are “s---hole countries,” or it lets too many
of them remain in the US.
The meaning of
this is plain. Trump is trying to appease his base and he has claimed he
objects to the lottery program because it admits terrorists. But as usual, there is no proof offered for
that claim. Most of the former US
terrorist attacks have been home-grown attackers, not foreign terrorists. But Trump still objects to the
deal reached because it still allows people from the “s---hole” countries, to remain.
Trump wants more funding for the border wall, which is symbolic for him,
and that’s exactly the point.
As Frank
Sharry of America’s Voice puts it,
the wall is a “middle finger to Latin
America,” a statement that “we don’t
want your kind.” It’s a middle finger to Trump’s s---hole countries, but more to the point, it’s a statement that we
don’t want the people coming from them.
In a
now-infamous exchange, CNN’s Jim
Acosta asked White House immigration
hard-liner Stephen Miller whether Trump’s policies are designed “to engineer the racial and ethnic flow of
people into this country.” Miller reacted with total outrage and repeatedly
cast the goal as reducing the mere numbers of immigrants for protecting US
workers from competition, which he said was in keeping with previous periods of
lowering immigration.
It is very
hard to disengage the goal of reducing the overall numbers of immigrant
arrivals from the goal of shifting our current ethnic and racial mix. But Trump
has now left no doubt that the real animating impulse is the latter.
The reaction
from United Nations human rights
spokesman, Rupert Colville, was extremely blunt. He described Trump’s remarks
as totally “racist.”
In El
Salvador, the news of the comments quickly shot to the top of media
websites. In Haiti, people took to
Twitter to share pictures of their country, brilliant green hills, palm trees
in the sunset, and sparkling turquoise water.
In Africa, similar reactions celebrating the beauty of the continent’s
countries.
It appears
that we are only beginning to glimpse the damage that Donald J. Trump is doing
to America’s standing in the world.
This is just
the beginning folks…..please stay tuned.
