WHY THE FORMER GOP NO LONGER EXISTS
…One of the two Senators that Trump has driven from
office.
Traditional conservative values
are why Donald J. Trump was able to get elected.
I am finally
starting to understand how Donald J. Trump can act as he does and get away with
it.
First, let’s
try and answer the question: “Why is a marginally world-educated man, that
lies about every other word, that refuses to admit or apologize when he is
proven wrong, a man that has no political expertise and a total lack of foreign
diplomacy, how does he survive as America’s Commander-in-Chief?”
Well, let’s take
a look at the current two US political parties:
The Democrats
lost the game decades ago when the controlling GOP re-drew the House election
districts with the most partisan gerrymandering approach in over 50 years.
Then the
Republicans spent a fortune as they succeeded in going after many state
elections positions and state governorships.
Years later, after
they completed this task, they then decided to never compromise with the
nation’s first non-white Democratic president and the final result for the GOP is now as follows:
The
republicans now Have:
·
More state
positions than the Democrats.
·
More
governorships
·
They control
the US House of Representatives
·
They control
the US Senate
·
They control
the White House
·
They have
confirmed that the US Supreme Court will remain mostly conservative
But going back
to the first question, “How does the
current president stay in control and why do the other Republicans not complain
about his not becoming the president that they had envisioned?”
Well, let’s now
look at who is still supporting the president.
Donald Trump’s
overall approval rating is the worst ever for a 1st year president
at 34%. But that rating includes everyone including independents,
Democrats and Republicans.
However, when
all the Republicans only are asked about their approval, ~70%-80% of them have
said they would continue to support the president no matter how he acts.
How can that be and why are two very
conservative and well respected Republican Senators failing to run again for
office, and this is mainly because of Donald J. Trump?
Well, it
starts with how a novice Donald Trump got elected over all those other
conservative candidates?
The two
conservative senators that are leaving the US Senate are Jeff Flake of Arizona
and Bob Corker of Tennessee. As
conservative Republicans they both have said they believe in the
following: smaller government, free trade, Immigration, free markets and personal
freedoms. These are not just their
beliefs, these had also been the basic foundation of the traditional Republican
Party. (Yes, the same traditional GOP
that Stephen Bannon has vowed to “Primary” all traditional Republicans and to throw
them out of office. He wants to repeat
what he did in the special election in Alabama that got the bigot and racist Judge
Roy Moore chosen to run against the Democrat later this year.)
Bannon and
even Trump’s goal is to “Drain the
Washington Swamp” of the current conservative GOP Republicans, and replace them with elected, extreme, Nationalistic,
“America First”, isolationist senators
and representatives.
The reality
about those that elected Donald Trump, is that they do not believe in the
traditional values of the Republican party.
The voters that put Trump in office feel differently about those
traditional, conservative Republican values. To them:
·
Smaller Government: That
means a government that takes away their benefits like Social Security,
Medicare, Medicaid, and possibly the health care that Trump had promised his
voters. (Which was a very big lie.)
·
Free Trade:
That’s what
kept their wages from increasing over the past 20 years.
·
Free Markets:
That’s what took all their factory jobs away to other countries.
·
Immigration: That
how they lost all their jobs to foreigners coming into our country and why they
need The Wall!
·
Personal Freedoms: The one area that everyone agrees on.
I other words,
the reason that the Republican party seems split is that it is!!! And those that want to keep their jobs in
government understand that if they go after Trump, they may lose their
positions. All those items that were formally
the foundation of the traditional Republican party, are exactly why Donald
Trump was elected over all those highly qualified Republican candidates.
So, what is
the answer to this gigantic conundrum?
Well, whatever
it is, it will take time. You will
recall that it took time to get his far, it will take time to reverse it.
And unless the
special investigation of Trump and Russia becomes reality, or there is some
obstruction of justice that removes Trump from office, get ready for him to run
again in 2020.
The only other
remote possibility is if things get so bad that the 25th amendment
would get Trump removed, or if the Democrats get control of the Senate and/or
the House.
But even then,
it would take months or years to make things happen.
Watch this
space.
