ONLY IN WASHINGTON D.C. CAN DICK CHENEY GET THIS KIND OF HONOR
…The way most people see the
former VP today.
More examples of just how
unpopular this former American Vice President has become.
I usually am
never surprised about what comes out of Washington D.C.. But I was seriously
shaking my head when they announced that the American tax payers had just paid for a
bust of the former war mongering VP, Richard
Bruce “Dick” Cheney.
Whoever
thought this was a good idea must have been part of the group of former “yes-men” inside the "Dubya" Bush
administration. You know, someone such
as Paul Wolfowitz, Paul Bremer or Scooter Libby.
To put this
event in proper perspective, the Republicans are very aware of how unpopular the
former veep is today. Knowing that, they have already announced that
it would eventually be on permanent display at a location “yet to be determined”. It
will probably be included with the 44 former veeps that have been enshrined in
the Capitol’s miles of hallways as part of the Senate’s official Vice Presidential Bust Collection.
This collection commemorates the service of these individuals only as the, “Presidents of the Senate”, not as the
nation’s Vice Presidents. Only Al Gore’s
likeness has yet to make it onto the Hill.
The well-known
author and journalist, Glenn Greenwald, Tweeted
the following upon hearing about the unveiling of Cheney’s bust: “The US doesn't prosecute its war criminals.
It honors them”. Glenn
Greenwald, @ggreenwald on Twitter.
The truth in
Greenwald’s quote, and the sentiment, was felt around the world
as former Vice President Dick Cheney was being honored.
The actual event even brought out Cheney’s true “partner in crime,” former President, George W. Bush. The ceremony was the first public appearance of Cheney and Bush together since the presentation of the biography of the senior George H.W. Bush. Bush Sr. had been previously quoted in criticizing Cheney for being "hard-line" and an "iron-ass". When W. Bush had told his father about the Cheney bust ceremony, Bush Sr. said “send my best regards to old iron-ass."
I would
instead refer to the former veep as something stronger and more villainess than
“old iron ass”.
W. Bush spoke
at the ceremony and he made light of the comments about the former vice president
who has recently used his considerable media platform to rail against the
Democrats. Cheney has continued to
declare that he is unapologetic about the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Dick
Cheney is in many ways responsible for the deaths of over 4,500 U.S.
troops—and reportedly hundreds of thousands innocent Iraqi
civilians. All of my spirituality totally leaves me when I think of Dick
Cheney. The world damage that he created, we are still dealing with in our
current war against the terrorists in Iraq and Syria. The lives he is responsible for destroying is beyond forgiveness, much less worthy of an honor.
When it was
originally announced in an internet news article about the unveiling of the
Cheney bust, I decided to check the comments that were posted by readers at the
end of the article. There was not one
positive comment about the former vice president. Here is just a short sampling of the actual
comments:
·
Nice satire.
This is satire, right?
·
So what's the
message here. "War Criminals Are Good and Whistleblowers are Bad"
·
I just want to
throw-up! No one else makes my skin crawl like this.
·
I'm calling
dibs when I'm reincarnated as a pigeon.
·
I think the
Bust looked much better…..before it was unveiled.
·
Cheney’s bust-look appears to be watching a prisoner’s waterboarding.
·
First, you
bust Dick Cheney. Then bust his bust.
·
Got a hammer?
How about a Baseball bat?
·
Wrong kind of
bust. I was briefly excited when I heard of a “Cheney Bust”.
· Are you sure
you want to see a bust of Dick Cheney?
Personally, I’d settle for a police mug shot...
·
I think
Cheney, Rumsfield and W. should get a free trip to the Hague International
Tribunal Court
·
Are they going
to place the bust in the men’s room next to all the other urinals?
·
The men’s room
would be a much more fitting place for a Cheney bust.
·
A bust of
Cheney makes me ashamed to be an American.
·
All countries
have their evil people that want to destroy respect for freedom. Cheney
outranks everyone as a Republican disgrace.
·
When I first
saw the headline about the Cheney bust, I thought Dick Cheney had been
arrested. Damn!
And on and on
and on…….nuff said.
At least I
know that I am not the only one that feels this way.
