SCOTT BROWN SHOULD STICK WITH PROMOTING MEN’S WARE & OLD PICK-UP TRUCKS
Mr. Brown is betting that New
Hampshire is much more conservative than his former state of Massachusetts.
When Scott
Brown lost his single-term as the Massachusetts US Senator to Elizabeth Warren, most of us had hoped
he would just go back to being a middle-aged male-model for men’s swim
suits. But no, he instead, moved one
state north to New Hampshire. Mr. Scott
is now running for the US Senate as a carpet-bagging candidate that still
sometimes confuses his old state of Massachusetts with his new state in his
many campaign speeches.
I have been
trying to ignore Mr. Brown’s current senate campaign, but then one of his
campaign TV ads made some big news, and it’s one that really offends me.
In the ad, Mr.
Brown starts with, “Anyone who turns on the TV these days knows we face challenges to our
way of life,” At this point, a figure clad in black and carrying an Islamic
State (ISIL) flag parades across the screen. Mr. Brown continues: “Radical Islamic terrorists are threatening
to cause the collapse of our country. President Obama and Senator Shaheen
seem confused about the nature of the threat. Not me. I want to secure the
border, keep out the people who will do us harm and restore America’s
leadership in the world. I’m Scott Brown, and I approve this message because
protecting the homeland is the first step to making America strong again.”
First, is he
really expecting the ISIL terrorist to come at us through Mexico? In addition, to say that the president and
the current US New Hampshire Senator, Jeanne Shaheen, are “confused” is totally baffling.
Confused about what?
It is
important for the reader to understand that the two American journalists, Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff, that were
killed and beheaded and shown on TV by ISIL, they were both from New Hampshire. As Senator Shaheen said after hearing about
Brown’s ad, “The threat from the Islamic
State “is personal for us in New Hampshire, You know, Jim grew up in New
Hampshire and Steven Sotloff went to school at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden.” “More
than most,” she said, of her constituents “see the Islamic State as the threat that it is.”
And just what
is the president supposed to be confused about regarding the border? This president has deported more criminals
coming from Mexico and the southern countries than any previous president. He has also more
than doubled the number of border patrol personnel and border monitoring
equipment than any president.
I guess that
when you have a slim chance of winning, why not inflame all the possible
constituents by making claims that the current president and the current US
Senator are the reason the, “country is
going to hell in a hand-basket”.
Might as well just set a nice fire as your leaving town, just to make
sure they remember you.
As for Senator
Shaheen, she’s a Democrat up for re-election this year. She has also taken a hard line in supporting
airstrikes in Iraq and Syria. She has spoken in favor of helping “the fighters on the ground in Iraq” and
for building a broad international coalition to push back the terrorist group,
ISIL. Sure doesn’t sound very confused
to me.
I agree with
something E.J. Dionne wrote about Mr. Brown’s comments in his campaign TV
ad. E.J. wrote, “Then there’s the attack on Obama and Shaheen for seeming “confused,”
the ultimate weasel word that tells us nothing about Brown’s own views. And
this is where Shaheen goes on offense. ‘What does he oppose?’ she asked during
an interview. ‘Does he oppose the airstrikes? Does he oppose
building an international coalition? Does he oppose doing something about
financing and recruitment?’ She added: ‘If he doesn’t like any of those things,
then he’s got to be for putting troops on the ground, and, you know, at some
point he’s going to have to acknowledge that.’ ”
The latest Washington Post / ABC News poll says
that the majority of Americans agree with Obama’s Islamic State (ISIL) policy
by a margin of 50% to 44%.
This was the first time since January that Obama had hit 50% or better approval on any foreign
policy issue.
So again,
where is all the confusion.
Senator
Shaheen is winning in the polls, but by less than 10 points, so it’s not a done
deal by any means. And New
Hampshire-ites are known to be very independent individuals, so nothing is over
til it’s over.
But there are
a bunch of us hoping that after the first week in November, we will only be
seeing pictures of an aging Mr. Scott Brown in the women’s magazines, wearing a Speedo.
