MISSOURI SENATOR IS STILL A SERIOUS TRUMP SUPPORTER
…Senator
Josh Hawley
I sure don’t
recall, “tens of thousands of peaceful Americans who came to the Capitol on Jan.
6th
Let’s face it, when Donald Trump’s own lacky Attorney General, Bill Barr, said he saw no fraud in the 2020 election. And when all of the 50 U.S. states A.G.’s certified their election results saying the election was one of the most secure elections in U.S. history. Where do the Trump supporters get the gall to argue that Joe Biden is an illegal president?
Then we
have the senator from Missouri, Josh Hawley, who is saying that he does not
regret raising his fist to a pro-Trump mob that gathered and then attacked the Capitol
on January 6th. His actual
words were: “I waved to them, gave them the thumbs-up, pumped my fist to
them and thanked them for being there, and they had every right to do that,”
Hawley said this during an interview with The Washington Post.
Even though the U.S. Congress totally affirmed the election of Joe Biden after the attack on the Capitol, there is still a large group of Americans that believe the former president that continues to complain that the election was stollen.
What is so ridiculous is that Senator Hawley, a possible 2024 presidential candidate, he is still insisting that “…I think it’s a slur on the thousands and thousands, tens of thousands of people who came to the Capitol that day to demonstrate peacefully to lump them in with the criminal rioters and say, ‘Oh, you’re all basically the same.’ ”
I was one of those that thoroughly watched the riot on TV and I don’t recall, “tens of thousands of people who came to the Capitol that day to demonstrate peacefully”. What I do recall is the “tens of thousands” of people that were part of the insurrection that left five people dead, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer who died of a stroke the day after he was injured, plus the more than 100 officers were seriously hurt.
In fact, I don’t recall seeing any of those so called “peaceful demonstrators”. Of all the news that was shown in the days after the attack on the Capitol, I don’t remember seeing any news programs showing any “peaceful demonstrations”.
Senator Hawley actually, stupidly repeated the follow just this week: “I don’t know which of those protesters, if any of them, those demonstrators, participated in the criminal riot,” Hawley said. “And I think it’s a slur on the thousands and thousands, tens of thousands of people who came to the Capitol that day to demonstrate peacefully to lump them in with the criminal rioters and say, ‘Oh, you’re all basically the same.’ ”
Yes, Hawley was among the Republicans who still voted against certifying Biden’s election win when Congress resumed voting in the evening after the riot. He maintains that he wasn’t going to allow the “lawless criminal mob” to affect his plans to raise “concerns about election integrity.”
Former
president Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that widespread fraud resulted in
a rigged election. That was the
falsehood that was rejected by his own Justice Department and the former A. G.
Barr.
Hawley said he raised the objection specifically over Pennsylvania’s results because of changes in voting laws that he believed were unlawful. Trump had won Pennsylvania in 2016, but lost it to Biden in 2020.
When The
Post reporter Cat Zakrzewski pushed back that Pennsylvania courts found
those arguments had no merit and tried to move on, Hawley said, “Don’t try
to censor, cancel, and silence me here.”
“Senator, we’re the ones hosting you here,” Zakrzewski responded.
Despite his contention that he was right to question the election results, Hawley still said, as he has in previous interviews, he says he now believes that Biden is the “duly elected president of the United States” and he urged Republicans to “take their stand through the democratic process.” Whatever he means by that….?
On top
of all that, Hawley has also defended his recent vote against a bill to combat
the increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Hawley
was the only senator to vote to oppose the bill
He says his opposition to the bill was that he believed it gave the federal government too much power “to define offensive speech and to track it and to monitor it and collect it.”
The bill in part directs the Justice Department to expedite a probe of the increase in hate crimes believed to be related to the insistence by Trump and other Republicans in linking the coronavirus to China and the Chinese people.
Hawley also spoke about the direction of the Republican Party, which he suggested still very much belongs to Trump. When asked about the pending decision from Facebook on whether to allow Trump back on the platform, Hawley said Trump’s influence over the party doesn’t depend on his social media. However, Facebook is sticking with their decision against the former president.
“My
view is, is that the former president, he’s a very significant force in the
party as it is, and that’s going to be true no matter what,” Hawley said.
Hawley, who is viewed as a likely contender for president in 2024, said he wasn’t “planning to run” and would not run in the GOP presidential primaries if Trump runs again.
Hawley is a real loser that is always looking to be in the news. Today, he knows that to be a strong Trump supporter gets him serious news coverage. If Trump starts to lose his position with his supporters, I think you will start to see that Senator Hawley will also switch to not supporting the former president.
That’s the kind of person that Josh Hawley seems to be.
