DONALD TRUMP'S WEEK FROM HELL
…Trump is depressed and is feeling
cornered
Trump’s lies are becoming more
ridiculous and unhinged
Last week, the
basics of Donald Trump’s world changed and it also was the beginning of a
possible change in the attitude of what is going to happen in the November
mid-terms.
To use the
primary election parlance of calling it a “Super
Tuesday”, at around 4.30pm, in two courtrooms, 200 miles apart, a pair of
Trump associates delivered a one-two punch that stunned the White House and the nation, and it
revived whispers of presidential
impeachment.
Yes, last
week, within a single hour, there were the scandals of Trump’s former lawyer
pleading guilty to 8 counts, two of which included the president, and of his
former campaign manager being found guilty of 8 of 18 serious counts, and that specific Cohen plea effectively turned the president of the United States into an “unindicted co-conspirator in a federal crime”.
You may
recall, that is what President Richard Nixon became during the Watergate scandal investigation.
Trump’s
personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, just made the whole thing worse when he was
asked if the president would give his version of events in a testimony. A testimony to the
special counsel Robert Mueller, investigating Russian interference in the 2016
presidential election. Giuliani immediately responded and warned, “that would be a potential
presidential perjury trap,” and then he blurted out: “Truth isn’t truth!” whatever the hell that means….?
Meanwhile,
back at the White House, Trump went
on to make that day worse as he hosted an event to highlight some success stories
of the Immigration and Customs
Enforcement Agency. He stated that
a border patrol agent, who is Latino and “speaks
perfect English”, and he was beckoned to the stage. The president then went on to mis-stated the
acronym for US Customs and Border
Protection (CBP) at least eight times by referring to it as “CBC”.
You know, CBC as in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
So far, and so
Trumpian, this has all become fairly typical of this bizarre presidency.
Per Dan Balz in the Washington Post: "No day during President Trump’s 19 months in
office could prove as dangerous or debilitating as Tuesday. Everything
that happened in a pair of courtrooms hundreds of miles apart strengthened the
hand of special counsel Robert S Mueller, while weakening that of the president
of the United States.”
Cohen’s plea
bargain statement could easily become exhibit A, if the “Blue Wave” happens and the Democrats win the House of Representatives in November, and then launch a campaign to
impeach the president, However, the
Democrats today continue to play down such talk. Also this is all happening as Michael Cohen’s
lawyer has embarked on a media tour saying his client is “eager to sing like a canary for Robert Mueller”.
And the week from hell was far from done.
It was then
announced that the Republican congressman, Duncan Hunter and his wife
were indicted that same week on corruption charges. Namely they had converted more than $250,000
in campaign money to pay for personal expenses, including dental work, fast
food, golf outings and holidays and trips for their family and nearly a dozen
relatives.
All this while
the Republican Representative, Chris Collins, was also indicted on that same day
for insider stock trading, as he put his re-election campaign on hold.
Both Hunter and Collins were two of the earliest GOP supporters of Donald Trump.
Yes, I would
say that this was definitely Trump’s and the GOP’s “Week from Hell”!
