MORE REASONS THAT TRUMP SHOULD NOT BE THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT
…Demonstrators against Donald
Trump.
According to the GOP platform,
women that have abortions should be punished.
There is an
issue that has once again been raised with Donald Trump’s bizarre comment about
punishing women that would seek and have an abortion.
The point is
that in some ways, based on what the Republican Party’s platform states on the
right to life of a fetus, the women that seek and have
an abortion, they should be punished.
The issue I’m
referring to is that according to the GOP party platform statement, there are no
exceptions for any reason to have an abortion. The party platform says the following, (and it has said this since 1984): “We
assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a
fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”
Since the
party also says that they believe that life begins at conception, any taking of
a life at any time, according to current law, is a “murder”, and murder should be punished.
But, if we go back to Ronald Reagan, all Republican presidents and presidential
candidates since were anti-abortion, but they all had exceptions for rape, incest and
the life of the mother.
As to today’s
Republicans, Ted Cruz is the only candidate that does not have abortion exceptions
for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
By having the
belief that life begins at conception, and that an abortion is really taking a
life, then why would you only punish the doctor who performs the abortion? Based on this belief, why not punish the woman who procures one and the man that impregnated her? (Don’t get me wrong, I personally don’t
believe that human life begins at conception.)
My point is that,
if all these former and current presidential candidates have exceptions for
certain abortions, why not change the platform and put the issue to bed.
Today, if a
family member is found guilty of committing incest, they will go to
prison. Under those circumstances, as
has been shown by these former and current GOP
candidates, this would be an exception that would allow for a legal abortion.
But as it is
currently stated within their own political platform, Donald Trump was in fact,
one-half correct. That being that
according to the party’s platform, any abortion is by their definition, the
taking of a life, that is murder. In the US, murder is punished.
So, then Trump states that the woman should be punished, but the man that impregnated the woman should not be punished in any way. As usual,
Trump’s half-assed reasoning is difficult to follow.
However, Trump's newly adopted
party is the one that for years has needed to revise their abortion platform statement.
In his
interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Trump's continuing to walk back his statements was very telling in a couple of areas. But basically, it was just another rock on the pile
of why Donald Trump should not become our American president.
It also
once again shows how out-of-sync the Republican Party is to have a party
platform that for more than 3 decades has declared something that the majority
of their own party’s members do not follow, or agree.
