A QUESTION FOR ALL GOP VOTERS: WHICH BIGOT DO YOU CHOOSE?
…The New Jersey Governor Christie
that wants to bar war refugees under 5 years old.
Not a lot of difference between
Trump and his rivals.
I’ll be the
first to admit that I took the bait early on and went after Trump, “hook, line and sinker”. Yes, I have been making all that noise about
how outrageous Trump’s declarations were, as has many other opinion and Blog
writers.
But, I am now
starting to get a bit upset with all those candidates that have jumped on the “Let’s get Trump” bandwagon, when it has
become basic a case of the “Pot Calling
The Kettle Black”.
The reality
is, Trump’s comments and statements have been off-the-wall, and yes, some have been outrageous. But before all the other candidates get into
their “holier-than-thou” mode, one
needs to listen to some of their disgusting statements.
These yahoo’s
should be very careful to “not protest
too much”.
Florida
Senator Marco Rubio has said that Trump’s position was “offensive and outlandish,” and S.C. Senator Lindsey Graham called
Trump “downright dangerous,” and he
said , “Donald Trump today took
xenophobia and religious bigotry to a new level.” Even the war-monger, Dick Cheney had said Trump’s
proposal against Muslims “goes against
everything we stand for and believe in.” While Ben Carson has stated, “We do not and would not advocate being
selective on one’s religion.”
But, I don’t
think many of these Republican candidates were that much further away from what
Mr. Trump has proposed.
Just take a
look at what some of these GOP
candidates have said:
Jeb Bush and
Texas Senator Ted Cruz each said the United States should accept only
Christians from among the refugees fleeing violence in Syria and Iraq. (Asked how the United States would actually
implement such a policy, Bush could respond only with variations of: “I mean,
you can prove you’re a Christian.”)
Kentucky
Senator Rand Paul said we should “pause”
all immigration from the Middle East. Senators Rubio and Dr. Ben Carson said no
to any Muslim refugees whatsoever, while the coward N.J. Governor Chris
Christie stated he wanted to even exclude orphaned Muslim toddlers.
Dr. Carson not
long tried to explain multiple times why he doesn’t think a Muslim should be allowed as a
US president.
As one writer
in the Washington Post stated, “It’s not clear that Trump’s competitors have
a lot of moral high ground to stand on, if their argument is essentially: ‘Vote
for someone slightly less bigoted than that other really big bigot.’ “
But in
actuality, as an example, when it comes to being fiscally sound, Trumps tax proposals are only slightly more radical
and ridiculous than the other Republican candidates.
Trump’s tax
proposal would cost the federal government an estimated $12 trillion in revenue
over the next decade. That’s per the US Tax Foundation. As a result, the
plan has been lambasted as irresponsible and absurd. Bush has said that Trump’s
plan as lacking in “fiscal
responsibility.”
But the $7
trillion hole that Bush’s own plan would blow in the budget, per the Tax Policy Center, is just as
irresponsible. And let’s not forget the
$4 trillion revenue loss that Rubio’s plan would cause? Or Senator Cruz’s plan,
which has about the same shortfall as Rubio’s.
If you also
look at all of their ridiculous proposals on women’s health, gun control and climate
change, there’s not all that much difference between Trump and the other
Republicans. Perhaps a difference in tone, but not much in actual substance
The reality is
that because Trump has been so bombastic, he is making his opponents look
half-way reasonable. (But only half-way.) In many ways, if
Trump is not the final GOP nominee,
whomever it is will probably need to thank the “The Donald” for making them at least appear “more in line whit what the American voter wants”.
It all just
keeps getting better.....or worse.
